Director, Design-The TUNNEL
project design director and manages the consultant(s) for preliminary and final designs, as well as <TABLE cellPadding=13 width=600 border=0 Director, Design-The TUNNEL Principle Accountabilities
1. Serves as project design director and manages the consultant(s) for preliminary and final designs, as well as in-house staff.
Manages the review and recommends approval of all plans, specifications and calculations to ensure constructability and compliance with regulatory agency requirements and accepted engineering practice for THE Tunnel Project.
2. Develops, implements and maintains QA/QC procedures for unit.
3. Maintains liaison and develops, executes and implements agreement between Amtrak and other railroads and utilities.
Serves on technical committees.
4. Maintains project budget and schedule.
Develops, implements and monitors recovery strategies.
5. Serves as design expert analyzing, recommending and resolving engineering issues encountered by the preliminary and final design consultant(s) for THE Tunnel Project.
Reviews and approves consultant/vendor plans submitted to Real Estate Department.
Reviews and/or manages staff to review plans and specifications prepared for construction packages.
6. Directs staff in the review and evaluation of construction schedules and other construction submittals.
Coordinates with Director, Construction on design issues and field modifications.
Provides oversight of contractor progress and construction techniques.
Reviews and evaluates construction change orders.
7. Establishes design parameters and assists in the development of conceptual designs and station programs for proposed elements of the project.
Prepares or evaluates cost estimates, project budgets and construction schedules.
Implements capital funding requests.
Assists in presentation of project proposals as licensed design professional before local boards and regional regulatory agencies.
8. Resolves staff concerns, assigns work, coordinates staff training, prepares merit reviews, and interviews/hires new employees.
Responsible for development of short and long-term project goals.
RESUMES MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH A SALARY REQUIREMNT TO BE CONSIDERED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS REQUIRED: Bachelors Degree in Engineering/Architecture or related areas and nine (9) years of progressive managerial applied experience in design and construction, to include five (5) years experience negotiating and managing consultant contracts.
Professional Engineer/Registered Architect license required.
Experience involving specific railroad and tunnel projects desired.
Experience with both New Jersey and New York building codes and agencies desired.
