College of Western IdahoNampa, IDSystems EngineerOpening Date: 3/31/2010Closing Date: 4/15/2010Bulletin No.: 2010 - 0172Position SummaryThe System Engineer will provide the primary support for Microsoft Network Operating Systems currently being used.

This person will also be responsible for the design/architecture, implementation, configuration, and administration of the Active Directory infrastructure and integration with other systems/software.

This person will support an Enterprise E-mail system.

This position will support a large server network and a growing user base.

Essential Functions
Maintaining and enhancing the existing computer network and laboratory environment dedicated to the support of the Colleges educational, administrative computing and research activities.


Providing day-to-day support to the faculty, students, and staff as it pertains to the hardware, software and network configurations of a Windows-based environment.


Keeping current and aware of the developments in educational and industrial use of computers.


Recommending to supervisor, additions, enhancements and modifications that will improve the operations of the Colleges network of computer systems.


Assisting in the purchase, installation and maintenance of proper hardware and software to accomplish specific objectives in teaching, curriculum development, and research.


Coordinating all computer based curriculum activity with other Colleges, CWI departments, and the IT Department, to ensure software compatibility is maintained between various disciplines.


Convey by word and action the values expected by CWI.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Baccalaureate degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent education or experience.


One years experience in computer networking.


Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.


Ability to serve effectively and in a collegial manner on various teams or committees.


Have computer literacy and working knowledge of ERP systems.


Background in Microsoft file server administration that has a MCSE or are working actively towards certification.

Superior Candidates
Possess detailed knowledge in VMWare software, and remote access capabilities such as VPN.
Knowledge of the client/server workplace with Active Directory experience and the performance of network management and network operating systems.


Experience in working within an educational computing environment.

CompensationSalary: Starting at $58,000.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually working indoors which means exposure to heat and air conditioning.

May be exposed to outdoors when transporting between buildings.
