Service Performance Engineer
Service Performance Engineer, OA&M Service Performance Engineer, OA&M Danger's Service Engineering group is seeking a talented systems performance engineer to work on its carrier grade hosted service.
The ideal candidate will possess strong systems engineering, analysis, and debugging skills and the ability to gracefully handle a dynamic, fast-paced service environment.
Responsibilities: * Evaluate/Analyze entire service for performance, reliability and scalability.
Use baselining, application assessments, modeling/simulation, capacity planning, performance monitoring, and trending techniques to forecast and advise appropriate teams.
* Make recommendations to appropriate teams on future designs/implementations.
* Work with data reporting analysts to ensure that they are properly characterizing our performance.
* Create and incorporate recurring performance practices into the overall service qualification and change lifecycle including regular reports on trends and performance metrics to management.
* Desire and ability to be on the service engineering escalation team when Operations group has production escalations (Tier 3 support).
* Work closely with QA and Operations groups during each release lifecycle.
* Document and test all work Qualifications: * 5+ years experience working as a service performance engineer.
5+ years experience working as a software and/or operations engineer.
* 3+ years working in a 24/7 production environment.
* Strong knowledge with core internetworking concepts and breadth of experience with practical internetworking skills * Must qualitatively and quantitatively analyze or forecast the impact of flow control, error recovery, latency, loss, and bandwidth dynamics on existing and proposed services.
* Should possess a working knowledge of advanced mathematical concepts such as probabilities, deterministic and stochastic processes, statistics, queuing theory, and the ability to apply same to various network-application dilemmas * Ability to decode and provide a thread-level interpretation of network traffic traces (TCP/IP) using NAI Sniffer, Snoop, or similar tool is required.
* Experience customizing or writing new tools to collect/analyze performance metrics.
Perl, Java, C preferred.
* Experience with UNIX based systems.
* Experience with network modeling and simulation tools.
* Experience with distributed, high-reliability, large-scale systems.
* Understanding of various application level network protocols.
* Experience with various reporting tools a plus (eg SAS, Crystal) * Must have demonstrated oral and written communication skills and ability to speak to technical and non-technical personnel.
* Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced live' environment
