Software Engineer Job Code: HTSC06061069 Job Description: Responsible for serving as the Lead Technical engineer to analyze, diagnose and modify computer software within the DMSP/POES Satellite Operations Control Center (SOCC) at Suitland, MD in response to spacecraft and/or ground system anomalies, or new or changing requirements.

Leads project software personnel in, or perform implementation of new or modified computer programs.

Maintains the operational readiness of the DMSP and POES ground systems.

Actively participates in the development and/or maintenance of the PACS, IPACS, or GIMTACS real-time and non-real-time subsystems, which include commanding, telemetry processing, communications and operational monitoring and control, or similar experience on other real-time and non-real-time satellite systems; in developing software on the DEC VMS workstations using DEC UIS or DEC Windows.

Recommends Automated Data Processing technologies for the purpose of improving the operations and monitoring functions of the SOCC.

Prepares detailed weekly status reports and ensure that they are delivered in a timely manner.

Investigates, troubleshoots, monitors, and resolves ground system software anomalies Assists during integration, test, and implementation of DMSP and POES system modifications.

This position requires on-call and after-hours availability as required to quickly respond to urgent operational problems.

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelors degree (BSEE) or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years of related experience Must have experience in integration, installation, and software maintenance, 5 years experience in the design or maintenance programming of complex engineering or scientific ADP systems, and in developing applications using FORTRAN or C programming languages, 3 years experience in developing software applications in DEC VMS operating system environment and 2 years experience on projects employing mature software engineering practices, which include software design reviews, code walkthroughs, test planning, and documentation.

Must be capable of maintaining the DMSP/POES real-time and non-real-time software subsystems and experience in design, development, and implementation of software modifications for satellite ground systems programs in a DEC VMS operating system environment utilizing high-level computer languages FORTRAN and C.

Must possess a technical writing ability and the capacity to work independently.

Knowledge of MS Office and MS Project expertise is required.

Experience: Knowledge of ground-based communications, communications protocols, secure TCP/IP networking, commanding and telemetry processing, and cryptographic equipment interfacing and control is a plus This position requires a Secret government security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
