Departmental Required Skills: Emerging Technologies (ADET) organization and design/develop/implement web-based business applications for higher education.

This position will be required to provide technical leadership and mentoring of development staff new to JAVA/Oracle environment, strategic and technical guidance, support IT strategies, and effectively communicate project status to management and customers.

Senior level technical development expertise in the following areas required: Proficient in web-based business applications development, client/server systems design skills, Oracle database design (10g+), WEB services technologies (Java, J2EE, JSP, Servlets, JavaScript, XML), SQL, Unix Operating Systems (Solaris preferred), SW configuration management expertise, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Process and Data Modeling tools/techniques, Quality Assurance Processes and technical documentation generation.

Experience in Portal Technologies, IT Project Management Tools such as MS Project and Software Development Methodologies a plus.

Excellent analytical and organizational skills are also required to handle the complex activities associated with multiple projects/ production problems.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related curriculum with an IT focus.

5 plus years progressive experience applications analysis, design, development and support of large, complex software projects in a WEB based client server environment.

Java/Oracle certification or working toward certification and senior level design and analytical experience preferred.

Essential Job Duties: Experienced Java application developer, with a strong background in business or higher education applications system development/interfaces.

This position will develop projects in the Application Development & Emerging Technologies (ADET) organization responsible for highly visible software development projects in support of University operational systems objectives.

The purpose of the ADET unit is to develop, implement and support business systems for all receipt supported units and other university units desiring a priority in their systems application development beyond that assigned under appropriated funding.

Central University administrative offices, academic departments, business departments, faculty, staff, and students utilization these applications.

Proven track record in design/development of large business applications with ability to lead and direct all aspects of complex information technology projects from inception to deployment including business requirements analysis, resource planning, project estimation, systems design, programming, delivery, maintenance, support and management reporting.

Experienced in maintenance and enhancement of the functional areas of software/application packages.

Works extensively with key customer department directors, managers and administrative computing support staff (Database, Technical & Infrastructure Services, Systems Integration Services, Network & Application Security, etc.) and is responsible for leading cross-functional teams to develop solutions that integrate information technology and business process changes to support strategic university administrative information needs.

Key systems created and/or supported by this unit include University Advancement/ Annual Fund/Alumni Relations; Student WEB applications; Financials Services; Research Administration; Environmental Health & Safety Hazardous Material & Vehicle Insurance Mgmt; Leadership Development; Materials Management; Continuing Education Course Approval/ Transcripts, Co-op, Transportation WEB Permit, College of Education and Administrative Portal applications.

Interfaces with ERP systems including Financial student billing for University Dining and Health Services and Student Information System data feeds to Health Services, Pharmacy, Dining - All Campus System, Library, Information Technology, Career Planning and Student Athletic Management System.

Other Work/Responsibilities: This position requires significant cross-functional teamwork and developing customer partnerships as a key role in a contract application development organization.

The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership abilities, interpersonal as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, communicating effectively and accurately with both internal and external customers.

This position will be required to lead application design/planning sessions; perform technical and analytical work in developing, designing, and/or analyzing solutions for clients through an appropriate blending of technical knowledge and business solutions.

Employees participate in the development of solutions using programming and business expertise for day-to-day problems to include maintenance, modification or development of complex inter-related applications.

Solutions link technical knowledge with business solutions and range from consulting services (software or hardware recommendations) to developing integrated-automated systems.

Duties include client needs assessment as well as evaluating hardware availability and software requirements.

Consults with customers, peers, and managers to proactively establish future technical direction.

Assist with Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery planning for ADET developed/supported applications.

A strong team player, capable of working in a small, highly specialized team-which must deliver timely WEB focused cost effective solutions.

Fosters and maintains excellent relationships with customers and IT colleagues to meet expected customer service levels.
