Reference Laboratory Technologist
The Reference Laboratory Technologist must perform basic through advanced test procedures and interpret complex test results in order to determine donor-recipient compatibility and be able to resolve compatibility problems, provide reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion facilities, and supply antigen-negative units to transfusion recipients.
Candidate will perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with SOPs, regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and other applicable Federal, state and local laws.
This person must comply with safety policies and procedures in the work area and use applicable protective equipment at all times to prevent exposure to potentially infectious blood and body fluids; perform and interpret serological procedures on specimen submitted for compatibility testing or problem resolution; and verify own test results and repeat tests where appropriate.
This individual must also perform and interpret platelet cross matches and antibody screening; consult and communicate with the staff of hospitals, dialysis centers, home transfusion services and transfusion facilities in order to resolve serological problems and supply antigen-negative or special units to transfusion recipients.
The Technologist will perform, review and approve quality control on products, reagents and equipment; maintain the required records and files; assist with the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment; and know and oversee compliance with applicable ARCBS directives, federal and state regulations, and local policies and procedures pertaining to blood banking and safety.
This person will adhere to quality assurance procedures and good manufacturing practice; and assume lead responsibilities, such as record review, ordering supplies and training, when designated by supervisor.
A Medical Technologist (MT) degree and ASCP or equivalent certification are required.
Reference Blood Banking experience is a plus.
