Technical Writer II / Indianapolis, IN & Colorado Springs, CO Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies JOB SUMMARY: Ingersoll Rand’s Security Technologies Sector is looking for a well-rounded, experienced technical writer to plan, research, write, and create technical literature designed to instruct our users on how to operate and install various products.
This role includes development of text and graphics for our installation sheets, service manuals, and templates.
You should possess a technical writing background, have strong experience creating both vector and pixel based graphic content, and know proper documentation layout principles.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES: Author, update, and edit written technical materials such as: service manuals, installation sheets, and templates.
Create and arrange the graphic content of service manuals, templates, and installation sheets.
Manage writing projects from inception to completion.
Gather and research information for written materials.
OBJECTIVES: Write, review, and edit documents for clarity and ease of use including: service manuals, installation sheets and templates.
Arrange and create the graphic content of service manuals, templates, and installation sheets.
Gather and research information for written materials.
Support both New Product Development (NPD) and sustaining engineering’s technical literature needs.
Work directly with project managers, marketing representatives and engineers to understand the products, collect feedback, and update the documentation accordingly.
Ensure technical documentation is accurate, complete, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.
Obtain a full understanding of the subject matter including target audience by using the products and interacting with product teams.
Work as part of a team to ensure that documentation projects meet content and schedule objectives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge & Work Experience: Understanding of mechanical concepts.
Strong, proven writing and communication skills.
The ability to create polished documents without the aid of an editor.
Education & Minimum Years of Experience: BA in Technical Writing, English, Graphic Arts or related degree is required.
4+ Years in Technical writing or graphic design field is also required Additional Skills (Computer/Technical): Experience with MS Office Suite, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe In Design and Adobe Acrobat or equivalents is required.
Experience with Adobe Framemaker is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Hours of work required: 40/week Physical/Mental requirements: Requires sitting, use of hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear clearly, close vision with ability to visualize in 3D, strong mechanical knowledge.
Travel % of time? 15% between Colorado Springs, Colorado and Carmel, Indiana office.
