Youth Extension Service (YES) Project Staff Intern: North Carolina State University
Minimum Experience/Education: Must be a College Student (rising Junior or Senior)Other Requirements:1.
Must make a one-year commitment to the program while remaining in college2 Must be interested in working with young people3 Must be interested in pursuing careers in Extension, community-based organizations and/or military family-related support4 Communicate with your mentor on a regular basis5 Attend training sessions as required6 Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures7 Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments8.
Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff and submit activity information9 Tolerant and respectful of individual differences.10. Have access to an automobile, auto insurance, and a good driving record.11. Have a clean criminal historyDepartmental Required Skills: YES staff intern must possess the skills necessary to work with a wide variety of people in a productive and effective manner, must be self-initiating and able to multi-task effectively and efficiently.
Effective oral and written communication skills for lay and professional audiences are essential.
Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, team building, problem-solving ability, networking skills.
Familiarity with electronic media and distance-education are highly desirable.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Experience working with youth- Excellent organizational and training skills- Skill in coordinating activities and establishing priorities- Excellent communication and presentation skills- Ability to analyze problems and make well-reasoned, sound decisions- Experience with Cooperative Extension is desirable but not requiredEssential Job Duties: Essential Duties:Interns will provide youth development programming for children and youth while their parents and/or guardians are on a military base going through pre- or post- deployment.
Program Overview:The Youth Extension Service (YES) was created in response to the growing needs of military families for youth development programming as they face pre- and post-deployment.
This initiative is designed to expand and enrich the efforts of the United States Department of Defense through Joint Family Support Assistance Program (JFSAP) and Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program (YRRP).
This initiative is funded by the United States Department of Defense through a cooperative agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture, National Institute for Food and Agriculture.
YES provides youth development programming for young people while their parents and/or guardians are on a military base going through pre- or post- deployment processing.
This goal is accomplished through a cadre of 25 to 30 college-age students who serve as YES staff interns for one year.
YES staff interns are recruited from universities across the nation and are interested in pursuing careers in Extension, community-based organizations and/or military family-related support.
YES staff interns are typically rising juniors or seniors in college and selected through a national search, application and interview process.
After their selection as YES staff, they receive high-level training in leadership development, facilitation skills, youth development and curriculum.
As a result of the training and experience, YES staff members become highly skilled youth development leaders and facilitators and prime candidates for future employees in public service and "giving" types of careers.
YES staff members are equipped with cutting-edge technology and support to ensure their success.
