Direct Support Professional - Staten Island: Assoc. for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC)

AHRC NYC's Department of Residential Services has several openings for Direct Support Professionals (DSP) in Staten Island.
Direct Support Professional job opportunities in Residential Services include positions as: Residential Case Managers (RCM) or Overnight Awake (ONA)DSPs support people to lead self directed lives and to participate fully in their communities.
DSP's commit to person centered supports, having as their primary allegiance a commitment to the people with whom they work, with all activities and functions performed on behalf of the individuals flowing from this allegiance.
Direct Support Professionals (DSP) responsibilities include: ? Assist the individuals served with household management (eg shopping, meal preparation, laundry, cleaning, and decorating) and transportation to maximize the individual's skills, abilities and independence.
? Promote the health and wellness of all individuals served through health maintenance and prevention strategies, accurate medication administration, knowledge of general health and safety rules, first aid and emergency procedures.
? Enhance the ability of the individual to lead a self-determined life by providing the support and information necessary to build self-esteem, assertiveness and independence.
? Obtain and administer all prescribed medications and accompany individuals to hospital or medical clinic when assigned.
? Participate in individual service plan development, implementation and review.
Residential Case Managers (RCM) work a 3pm to 11pm shift including weekends.
The starting salary for these positions is $17,250 for part-time, $23,000 for full-time positions.

HS diploma / G.ED required? CLEAN DRIVERS LICENSE of three years or more REQUIRED? Experience working with MR/DD population especially in a residential setting preferred.
? Read, speak, write, comprehend, and respond appropriately to written and verbal information and direction in English.
? Must be able to carry up to 30 lbs. and have the ability to assist with lifting and/or transferring individuals who need such assistance.
? Must be able to walk or transport oneself around to a great enough extent so as to perform the duties of the job. ? Ability to complete the agency's pre-service training program.
Training includes: medication administration and management; first aid and CPR; health and safety issues; community integration practices; behavioral and medical needs of individuals with developmental disabilities; record keeping and documentation practices.
