Communications - Online Mobilization Coordinator
Online Communications Coordinator This position in the Public Affairs Department is responsible for developing and implementing the national union's Internet and e-mail marketing plans (including issue, legislative, political, organizing, fundraising and other campaigns) to educate and mobilize members.
Will also develop and implement plan to use the Internet to complement existing offline member communications.
DUTIES: Coordinates the development and implementation of a consistent and concerted online marketing program.
Works with various departments to identify opportunities engage members in online issue, legislative, political, organizing and fundraising campaigns.
Leads the development of strategies and plans to convert online subscribers and activists into offline activists and contributors, and vice versa.
Creates strategic plans for these campaigns, including short-, medium- and long-term e-mail schedules.
Researches and writes or edits e-mail content for these campaigns.
Develops ongoing narrative strategies with e-activists on specific issues.
Works closely with online staff on strategies to increase traffic to AFSCME website and convert visitors to into activists and contributors.
Creates and coordinates list-building strategies involving paid and unpaid acquisitions.
Identifies strategies to augment offline member communications with e-mail communications, including enhancing design and content of current e-mail newsletter and working with various departments to educate, evaluate and improve the effectiveness of their member communications.
Implements and monitors testing plans, reporting metrics and benchmarks.
Tracks, analyzes and reports on all campaigns to maximize online communication effectiveness and build awareness internally of benefits of online tactics for offline programs.
Coordinates the editorial process for e-mail communication, securing and incorporating multiple levels of review.
Develops internal protocols for e-mail communications.
Initiate or participate in all strategic planning for AFSCME Internet initiatives.
Manages development of affiliate email program, includes establishing program policies with affiliates, working closely with affiliate executive directors and communications directors, setting up training programs, and more.
Represents AFSCME in the AFL-CIO Working Families Network.
Selects and manages vendors.
Researches new technologies and techniques.
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in labor relations, communications, political science or liberal arts and 7-10 years of experience in labor, political or community organizing and campaign communications with at least 2 years experience with online advocacy marketing.
Strong and proven persuasive writing skills demonstrated by samples of e-mail and campaign writing such as leaflets, mailings or talking points.
Understanding of technical aspects of e-mail and web functionality.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to analyze and incorporate message research data.
Proven ability to juggle several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Commitment to editorial excellence.
Knowledge of the labor movement.
Ability to collaborate and work well with staff at all levels and in a team environment.
