Position can be located in Hartford, CT, Woodbridge, NJ or Newark, NJ VP, Pension & Structured Solutions Actuary This position offers the opportunity to participate in the product development and implementation of innovative institutional pension solutions for defined benefit plan sponsors.

The Pension & Structured Solutions Actuary will work with internal and external resources to develop pension risk transfer and risk management products, bring these solutions to market and close "first mover" transactions for such products including "buy-in" annuity strategies, other insurance based pension strategies, reinsurance of UK pension liabilities, longevity products (longevity swaps) and bespoke buy-in solutions.

This position will be responsible for leading the actuarial analysis required to ensure innovative pension solutions reflect the appropriate price-to-risk corporate finance metrics.

The actuary will participate in the design of pension solutions that the team expects to have a significant commercial impact for Prudential Financial.

The actuary will work collaboratively across various business groups within Prudential Financial, including ALM, PIMFI, Law, Sales and Retirement.

The actuary will prepare and present analysis to senior management, internal business teams and committees.

The actuary will construct, support and publish marketing materials, including case studies and white-papers to externally enhance our pension risk management expertise.

In addition, the actuary will be called upon to meet with clients and prospects, and speak at corporate and actuarial conferences as our subject matter expert on pension risk transfer solutions.

The individual will oversee the development and maintenance of the sponsor comparative forecasting of pension risk management solutions with the corresponding solution impact on the sponsor's balance sheet, profit & loss and cash flow.

Sponsor projection models are constructed under an ERISA and GAAP accounting basis.

The position will also support senior management requests to understand the actuarial and investments risks associated with new product solutions, and being able to communicate effectively with senior management will be essential.

The actuary will have management responsibility for a small staff of actuaries and actuarial analysts.

Prior experience demonstrating the ability to construct liability driven investment portfolios and asset-liability models will be primary to being assigned to this opportunity.

Other Comments: This position requires an individual with strong client relationship skills, significant defined benefit actuarial experience, and modeling skills to fill an important role on the pension risk solutions team.

This position requires a detail-oriented and very organized individual.

The associate will be heavily involved with the actuarial modeling, and will be subject to very tight time frames.

Responsibilities: · The actuary will oversee, actively and directly participate, and have responsibility for the non-stochastic and stochastic asset-liability pension and product models to evaluate product feasibility · Adapt models for product innovations and custom solutions · Work closely with other members of the Pension & Structured Solutions business team, ALM, PIMFI, Legal, and Retirement · Learn and utilize tools currently in use by ALM, PIMFI and Retirement's Pricing teams · Be an active participant in Prudential's actuarial community · Effectively communicate actuarial results and product innovations to internal teams, and to our clients and prospects · Stay up-to-date on insurance and investment industry developments with respect to regulation, accounting and quantitative techniques Qualifications Specific Job Requirements are: · Strong quantitative, problem solving and analytical skills · Strong written and verbal communication skills · Strong leadership characteristics associated with an entrepreneurial environment · At least 15 years experience in the pension consulting arena including assessing and communicating complex plan sponsor issues to clients and external consultants · Results oriented, focused on opportunities for corporate and personal growth · Demonstrated values of client focus, teamwork, coaching and integrity · High energy, positive attitude and initiative · Ability to managing competing priorities · Experience with actuarial pension projection and valuation software · Experienced user of MS Excel · Credentials - ASA or FSA required, and CFA preferred
