ucsd.edu/bulletin/job.aspx?cat=engineering&sortby=post&jobnum_in=50321 Apply by: 11/24/09DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, assist in the development and assembly of integrated computer-based instrumentation and data acquisition systems for underwater imaging research.
Develop computer and data acquisition software for optical and acoustical oceanographic research using LabView as well as Matlab and C/C++.
Acquire and analyze recorded data in the laboratory from experiments and assist in the preparation of scientific papers and reports.
Prepare for and participate in at-sea and field experiments and engineering tests.
Maintain laboratory support for all laboratory PC and MAC computer systems.
~~Occasional irregular hours and overtime.
~~Must be able to go to sea for approximately thirty days per year.
QUALIFICATIONS: * BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related scientific field and two years related engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Competence in developing integrated computer-based data acquisition systems and computer and data acquisition software.
* Experience with MS-DOS, Windows-based, Macintosh and UNIX based computer systems.
* Skilled at developing electrical schematics using conventional and CAD methods.
* Strong proven skill and experience with LabView software as well as Matlab.
* Ability to analyze real-time oceanographic data.
Preferred: * Knowledge of Oceanographic Optics and Acoustics and skill and ability with C/C++.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: CA Driver's License.
Certified to utilize a forklift.
