Storage Engineer Job in Indianapolis 46204, Indiana US
SummaryProvide administration and technical support for matters related to enterprise storage management and data backup and recovery.
Responsible for monitoring, capacity planning, problem resolution, and documentation of the enterprise storage and data backup environments.
Assist in the implementation of all configuration changes to the storage and data backup infrastructure.
Also, assist in business continuity development, architectural analysis, backup/restore procedures and special assignments as directed.
Challenges and Responsibilities Strong understanding of how infrastructure works together and how to orchestrate the necessary technical evolution as it relates to storage Proactively monitor and report on system performance, capacity, availability, and end user response time.
Assist internal users and IT departments with day-to-day troubleshooting, addressing storage system problems / issues, including 24 x 7 support Maintains growth statistics, space forecasts, and software and hardware inventories.
Reconfigure SAN environment as needed Manage enterprise system backup and restores.
Assist with the design and development of a disaster recovery and resumption plan for SAN attached servers and associated storage.
Assists with data backups and recovery Assist with the planning and design of future storage architecture.
Prepare basic cost analysis and vendor comparisons to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations and measures feasibility of various approaches.
Lead projects related to storage needs.
Ensure changes are planned, documented, and implemented in a sound low risk manner without creating system outages Capable of stepping into day to day infrastructure activities in the server, storage, security and network areas Skills and RequirementsExpert knowledge of storage arrays and SAN switches Hands on experience troubleshooting, optimizing, and zoning of fiber channel storage arrays and fabrics.
Experience with enterprise backup software packages Strong knowledge of database (DB2, SQL), and application (Domino) agents for backup and restore.
Working knowledge with VTL, data de-duplication, and other means to increase efficiency of backup and recovery procedures.
Experience configuring shared storage for virtual environments Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously Proactive, decisive, action-oriented individual Experience5 years progressive experience administering SANs
