Staff Research Associate III Job in Los Angeles, California US
Job Duties: The Pediatric Endocrine lab at UCLA is looking for an experienced technician to run and develop ELISA assays.
The position has long term committed funding and is an opportunity to participate in cutting edge science.
Under the supervision of faculty in the Pediatric Endocrinology Research Laboratories, the research associate will run esablished in-house ELISAs, in addition to developing novel assays for newly identified biological peptides.
Other duties will be to perform laboratory tests on tissue and body fluid samples from clinical and animal sources.
Organize laboratory infrastructure to support the research mission of the division.
Duties include ordering supplies, recording data; maintaining, logging, and aliquoting samples; shipping frozen samples; preparation of tissue culture media; and radiation safety duties.
Job Qualification: Experience with the performing and developing of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and radioimmunoassays (RIAs) on tissue and fluid samples is essential.
The following is required: certification in handling radioactive materials and animals.
Demonstrated skill in problem solving and prioritizing assignments to complete work in an accurate, timely manner in a fast-paced environment, whether working independently or cooperatively.
Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, database maintenance.
Demonstrated ability to understand and correctly apply complex technical terminology, ability to enter data and maintain study records.
Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, allied health personnel, trainees, regulatory agencies and study sponsors, both verbally and via written reports and memos.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
Specific expertise to include as many of the following as possible: develop and maintain human and murine cell lines; prepare and maintain plasmid and bacterial stocks; transform E.
coli; perform molecular cloning; prepare radioactive probes; purify oligonucleotides and restriction fragments; make recombinant constructs; isolate DNA from cells and tissues; perform Southern hybridization; perform solution hybridization of genomic DNA; perform polymerase chain reaction analyses; perform fluorescent in situ hybridization to metaphase chromosomes; extract yeast DNA; maintain yeast clones; perform protein gel electrophoresis; perform fluorescent resonance energy transfer; purify proteins following specific protocols; perform DNA gel shift assays; prepare tissue sections for histologic analysis, including immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy; collect tissue samples from animals, including tail biopsies; euthanize animals; perform Northern blots on frozen tissue samples; maintain and track animal breeding colonies.
All animal-related work will be supervised directly by Dr. Ferry, although independence of the experienced research associate will be supported.
