Sr Principal Scientist-Viral Disease Research Job in Silver Spring 20910, Maryland US
This position is located in our MD, Silver Spring facilityScientist to support Viral Disease Research.
1. Investigate viral determinants of virulence/disease severity and antigenic and phylogenetic relatedness of target pathogens2 Investigate host factors in disease pathogenesis and immunologic protection using classical immunologic technologies that support product licensure and emerging/novel population genomic and systems biology strategies.
3. Develop, test, optimize and validate assays for the detection and identification of pathogens of military interest.
Develop and test methods for the collection and transport of samples in field environments to support global epidemiologic studies4 Conduct epidemiologic studies, including outbreak investigations, to characterize disease risks, burden, transmission dynamics, and global movement dynamics of target viruses and identify and develop future clinical trial sites5 Conducts animal and human clinical trials of candidate products in a manner compliant with regulatory requirements6 Maintain a CAP/CLIA certified lab for the testing and reporting of diagnostic assays on human specimens.
7. Establish the capability to identify new agents of disease from clinical and environmental specimens using an array of novel and classical technologies.
8. Develop and assess antiviral agents and immunotherapeutic measures to prevent or treat infection/disease.
9. Conduct host nation, partner laboratory assessments and training activities as needed to support global collaborations, build capacity, and achieve objectives.
Requires PhD.Requires 10-15 years experience.
