Software Engineer Job in Los Alamos 87544, New Mexico US
TEKsystems is seeking a Software Engineer to support the Department of Energy in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Summary: Software Controls Engineer to work as a member of the Controls Software Team within the Instrumentation and Controls Group of the Accelerator Operations and Technology Division (AOT-IC) on the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) User Facility refurbishment project.
The successful applicant will be expected to work as a member of the team whose primary responsibility is to develop control system software and provide operational and maintenance support for the software used with the LANSCE accelerator, proton storage ring, and experimental area beam lines.
Primary assignment for this subject matter expert will be to design, implement, and document EPICS devicesupport software for a VME timeddata module and a Java user interface for the new LANSCE timing system as a part of the LANSCE Refurbishment project.
In addition, this person should train other team members so they can use, update, and maintain that system.
To accomplish these goals, the successful applicant will work with controls engineers, physicists, operators, instrumentation and controls technicians and others on an asneeded basis.
Required Skills: Significant experience (5 years or more) developing control system components; programming experience in C++ and Java; experience with the Linux and VxWorks operating systems; programming experience with the EPICS toolkit (Experimental Physics Industrial Control System); experience with VME. Demonstrated excellent communication, written, and oral skills.
Demonstrated experience working on medium or large scale projects and as a member of a team.
Desired Skills: Experience in requirements collection and analysis, documentation of software systems, and realtime programming.
Education: BA degree in computer science, controls engineering, physics or physical science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This is a two year contract with all work being performed on site.
