Server Capacity Analyst Job in Groton, Connecticut US
This role is focused on identifying and executing opportunities for server retirement, consolidation, and virtualization as an ongoing server within Business Technology/Application Hosting Services.
Within the role, additional responsibilities include tracking the retirement of physical servers and managing against standard performance thresholds.
This position reports to and works directly with the Infrastructure Capacity Manager as well as working with client contacts, migration project managers, and Data Center Management.
Responsibilities: Server utilization and application analysis to identify consolidation and retirement opportunities; create a detailed findings report for each system identified as 'in scope' for retirement to be presented to internal as well as client leadershipUtilize all available sources to collect and provide data on server and application utilizationInterface with customer contacts to present findings and proposed solutions for underutilized systemsInitiate and track to completion the retirement or consolidation of any actionable systemFollow existing and present improved processes and procedures for managing this serviceProactive identification of virtualization opportunities, customer interaction and planning, and management of execution activitiesMaintain a performance monitoring and trending process for the server capacity activities globallyMaintain existing and develop new reporting procedures as requiredFollow a formal escalation process where contact information for a given system is unavailable or inaccurateDefine integration points between application support processes and VMware management functionsProvide weekly quad-style status updates which will include running metrics for candidates in various stages within the processThe successful applicant will possess the 4+ years of working in an enterprise data center organization, as well as an understanding of the following technologies as they relate to Data Center management: Solaris, Windows, and ESX operating systemsGeneral server hardware technologiesRAID technologiesSAN concepts/technologiesGeneral networking technologiesTCP/IP fundamentals and related applications/protocols (DNS, HTTP, FTP, and SSH)Familiarity with ITIL service management principles (change/incident/problem management)
