We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer - Search in our San Francisco offices.

We are looking for an senior engineer who can take ownership of projects and help deliver them into our local search product that would be used by millions of users.
You will take on projects and use Machine Learning, Data Mining and IR approaches to solve problems faced by our consumers.

Responsibilities: • Solve complex problems by identifying possible solutions • Design, implement, and test leading-edge local search features/functionalities • Keep abreast with latest technologies • Help design, define and document technical specifications • Create robust large-scale production applications • Create prototypes quickly and re-architect them for production readiness • Take research projects and work collaboratively to move them to engineering • Provide platform support and maintenance • Document code and system designs • Play an active role in the evolution of the product • Develop deep expertise in multiple areas This is not a management position; however, senior-level staff members are expected to mentor junior staff, provide technical guidance for 2-3 people and demonstrate leadership skills.
Requirements: • A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design • Solid understanding of Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, NLP or Data Mining.
• Demonstrated experience in writing software frameworks • Hands on experience in writing Map/Reduce Jobs (Hadoop) • Hands on experience developing search applications using Solr/Lucene • Strong OO understand and experience in one OO language (Java, C++, etc) • Experience in one scripting language (Ruby, Python, Perl, etc) • Experience in Continuous Integration tools and environments ( CruiseControl, Maven, Ant) • Minimum 6 years of development experience, preferably at a search related company • Must be self-motivated, have great communication skills (work with product, qa and other dev teams), innovative and engineering excellence.
