Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM) , part of the Rio Tinto group, has an immediate opening for a Senior Process Engineer based in Boron, California.

The position is located on-site at our Boron Operations in the Technical department.

The Technical Department at Boron Operations assists the Boron site in achieving Key Performance Drivers (KPDs).

The Technical Department has three major functions: Process Control, Process Engineering and Training.

The training group supports the plant by developing and providing training for all levels of the Refinery Organization.

The Process Control function is responsible for coordination and improvements to all process control systems throughout the site and for the data historian and reporting systems.

The primary Process Engineering function is to support fixed plant operations with technical knowledge and skills and provide both day to day support as well as lead improvement projects.

The position of Senior Process Engineer exists to support Fixed Plant Operations, in particular the Boric Acid Plant and the Primary Process Plant, by fulfilling the following tasks: Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality programs and standards for Rio Tinto Minerals and outside regulatory agencies.

Promote behavioral safety.

Develop and maintain process models/simulations, eg SysCad, Bilmat, etc. Manage the Mine to Market Value Model: Maintain modelProject evaluation and prioritizationPlant Capacity Analysis / Debottlenecking studiesProvide user trainingManage reporting of Global Metrics for Work & Asset Management and Processing and Business Improvement Program projects.

Assist with Medium Term Production Planning (MTPP).

Develop and implement monitoring and reporting for the Refinery processes, including metallurgical, quality and delay accounting.

Develop and implement innovative process improvements, work practices and equipment changes to improve plant throughput, energy consumption, water use, reagent usage, recovery, and quality and reduce costs.

Analyzes and interprets process related information and prepares technical reports for use by engineering and management personnel.

Confers with engineering, contractors, consultants, and technical personnel to resolve problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation.

Develop/implement capital, engineering and Business Improvement Ideas (BIP) projects.

Mentors junior engineers to help develop expertise in process evaluation, diagnostic, and problem solving skills.

Lead green belt Lean / Six sigma projects as required.

Establish a constructive culture in the team by demonstrating and utilizing appropriate leadership behavior, symbols and systems.

Act as Technical Department Superintendent when required.

Qualifications: Drive positive Safety Culture.

Ensure compliance with RTM safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.

Bachelors Degree or higher in Chemical, Mineral Processing or Metallurgical Engineering.

Five to ten years experience in the mining or chemical industry required.

Operations / Process engineering background with prior experience of creation and managing mine to market models.

Knowledge of budgetary processes required.

Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills for complex problems that are encountered.

Proven management and supervisory skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, build and lead teams, influence people, make critical decisions, and communicate effectively with a variety of personnel.

Lean/Six Sigma skills desirable.
