Senior Mechanical Designer Job in Minneapolis 55402, Minnesota US
JOB DESCRIPTION Avant Energy, Inc, an energy management firm located in downtown Minneapolis, seeks to hire a person for a Senior Mechanical Designer position.
Avant Energy helps clients manage energy cost and risk through our consulting services, energy trading, utility management and development of power plant projects.
Avant Energy will be designing and building Minnesotas first large scale bio-gas fired power plant.
It will make use of locally sourced biomass and agricultural residue to generate clean renewable electricity for local power markets.
This Senior Mechanical Designer position has the following responsibilities: · Prepare design drawings of mechanical systems and piping for Agricultural and Power Generation Projects.
Systems to include process piping, ductwork, utility systems and skid mounted equipment · Layout equipment and general arrangements including piping connections between process systems· Prepare PI&D drawings based on preliminary process flow drawings· Prepare preliminary piping specifications based on design drawings· Prepare material takeoffs from engineering drawings for cost estimating · Prepare piping isometric drawings and spools for mechanical estimation and fabrication· Design of shop fabricated equipment skids It is estimated to be approximately 500 hours of work between January and June of 2010, averaging around 20 hours per week.
Candidate needs to be available as needed and prepared to work a flexible schedule.
Candidate should also be available to provide support during the construction phase, July through December.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 10 years prior experience in process equipment and piping design in one or more of the following industriesFood/ Agricultural ProcessChemical ProcessRefiningPower generation using reciprocating engines and heat recoveryEthanol Knowledge of drying and odor control technology for agricultural materialsSpace visualization skills in the layout of equipment and systems to maximize operability and maintainability of overall facility.
Knowledge of the following Codes and Standards for piping and process designASMEASTMANSIMinnesota Building CodeNFPASMACNATEMAAPIAWSAbility to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and equipment sheets to produce dimensionally accurate and organized piping layouts.
Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, contractors, building inspectors and field personnel with respect to bid documents, specifications and construction drawings related to mechanical systems installation.
