What You'll Do We are seeking a Senior Casting Process Engineer to identify and implement scrap reduction projects through engineering improvements/changes for John Deere Foundry Works (JDFW) and coordinate assessments/improvements for outside casting suppliers, when applicable.

Within this role, you will: Review all process plans and instructions for molding sand production, core making, molding, shakeout, blasting, finishing, and machining of cast products, and make recommendations for process improvements there in.Lead, perform, and evaluate DOEs (Design of Experiments) related to process capability improvements in process-related foundry disciplines.

Provide high-level technical support for JDFW operations personnel, as well as key supplier technical contacts.

Lead and/or advise John Deere Casting Center of Excellence (C-CoE) assessment teams in evaluation and reporting of John Deere casting suppliers' technical capabilities, both domestic and foreign.

Lead initiatives in evaluation of new process-related technologies, to provide JDFW and John Deere casting suppliers with unparalleled technical competencies.

Update the C-CoE leadership team on a regular basis to ensure effective communication of activities and performance to goals.

Maintain a GLOBAL perspective related to improvement of casting processes and technology improvements, with an eye to sustaining John Deere as a global leader in the utilization of highly-engineered cast products of unparalleled quality.

What It Takes We are seeking an Engineering professional with 15 years' of experience in foundry operations or a technical field managerial role.

Additionally required: Six-Sigma training and experience; ability to gather, interpret, report on, act upon, and maintain empirical data related to foundry process variations.

Strong background knowledge of Foundry green sand production, metallurgical influences on product characteristics, and a basic knowledge of machining processes as correctly applied to castings.

10 years experience leading cross-functional foundry teams.

Ability to effectively facilitate discussions at all levels of the organization and gain buy-in without the use of authority.

Experience in supervision of salaried individual contributors who take an active role in foundry processes, including performance management, career and succession planning, training/development, and in administering the salary pay plan.

Train and coach direct reports on skills related to foundry processes, verification and validation.

A strong candidate will also have: Experience in supervision of highly technical engineering staff.

Experience in project management and machine acquisition.

Proven experience in strategic planning and business development.

Experience in developing foundry training and technical programs.

Experience in development and analysis of gating and risering systems for gray and ductile iron castings, the ability to recognize cast defects and determine root causes, and to assist technical personnel in development of corrective strategies for such defects.
