The Information Technology Department, located in Walnut Creek, California, has an opening for an Security Engineer within its Information Security group.

The position will be located in the Walnut Creek offices of Safeway.

Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired, unless specifically stated: BS/MS in Computer Science/Information Security or BS/MS and relevant experience in Information Security.

8+ years experience in Information Technology with a minimum of 3-5 years in corporate or information security, (CISSP / GIAC, CISM, or similar is preferred)4+ years experience in one or more of the following: Administrative Safeguards (security policy and procedure, security incident response and metrics/reporting), Technical Safeguards (Host security and hardening, multi tiered architectural design, network access controls, encryption/decryption of electronic transmissions and information at rest, authentication/authorization)5 years experience in Systems and host infrastructure security with hands on experience in two or more of the following: - Host security and virtualization, Host based Firewall, Radius Authentication, System/Host Security principles, Log Management, host whitelistingIn-depth knowledge of UNIX, Linux and Windows host based securityDetailed knowledge of multi tiered systems design with Host, application and database componentsFamiliarity with Cloud computing and different service models (ITaaS, SaaS)Solid understanding of interworking and connectivity between computer systems and security related issuesClear and detail understanding and experience with Virtualization technologies and controls and best practice around themAble to correlate regulatory and corporate security standards into technical and procedural controlsStrong communication, organizational, interpersonal, time management, and project management skills.

Well presented and ability to work as an individual contributor and supervise and direct the work of others Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Responsible for Host base security controls, standards and technical consulting to the IT organization* Responsible for expanded host security such as host base firewalls, File integrity monitoring, whitelisting and virtualization controls* Research and development of a companywide log management solution to support the current event management efforts* Expanding the infrastructure security tool portfolio to enhance the availability, integrity and confidentiality of Safeway's infrastructureDevelop presentations for executive management.
