The Senior Manager - Engineering is primarily accountable for managing a team of staff engineers and other technical staff.

A key responsibility of this position is the assignment of staff to project teams based on skill strength and workload.

The simultaneous coordination of multiple projects in a collaborative and demanding environment is required.

The position is responsible for the planning and delivery of simultaneous design reviews at various stages throughout the design process and working within the SDA project system to manage the processes, maintenance and documentation of engineering information and ensure that it is efficiently and appropriately captured.

The Senior Manager - Engineering will also serve as the primary engineering support on some capital projects, as assigned by the Director.

Supervises and provides technical guidance to Staff Engineers and Construction Specialists.

This includes coordination of effort with the Managing Architect to ensure timely and accurate design review and quality control of design documents.

Provides oversight to engineering staff to ensure each phase of the review is completed in adherence to the contract, NJSDA policies and procedures and applicable codes and requirements.

Consults with and provides guidance to engineering consultants under contract with the SDA to develop resolution to complex issues presented during the design and construction phases.

Partners with the Senior Manager - Architecture and project teams in the development of schedules and allocation of work load, to carry out the work of the Division, to ensure quality control and adherence to project schedules and budgets.

Schedules appropriate staff to provide guidance and monitoring in the field, including assistance in the development of solutions and corrective action plans to mitigate potential cost overruns via change order analysis.

Prepares and makes presentations to NJSDA Board of Directors, Executive staff and the Board of Education for local school districts.

Manages the development and update of the SDA Design Manual and supports the program-wide Project Management guidelines.

Performs technical reviews and serves as the primary engineering contact for specific projects, as assigned by the Director.

This includes attendance at Project Management, Core Team and other meetings, as needed.

Oversees the review of invoices in accordance with NJSDA operating authority and policy and procedure, as needed.

As required or directed, may provide guidance regarding technical requirements for procurement of consultants.

May also participate in the selection of consultants in accordance with SDA policy and procedures.

Advocates advancement of Best Practices for PreK-12 facilities through the development and update of the SDA Design Manual and program-wide Project Management guidelines.

Performs other tasks as needed in support of the SDA Project Management mission.

Required Skills and AbilitiesStrong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to lead and guide the work of professional consultants, and to guide the submission of deliverables.

Demonstrated ability to schedule and delegate staff in an effective manner, to ensure quality control and adherence to project schedules.

Working knowledge of all aspects of general design and construction., with the demonstrated ability to guide and provide sustained attention to the comprehensive review of complex plans and specifications at various stages of design; to identify and coordinate multiple technical issues; and to recommend appropriate design alternatives and corrective measures.

Demonstrated ability to interpret technical issues for design disciplines accurately and effectively, and to express problems and solutions verbally and graphically.

Extensive experience reading and interpreting construction documents and drawings.

An established working knowledge of local zoning ordinances, construction codes, and regulatory agency requirements as they relate to design.

Extensive knowledge of professional service contracts for multi-million dollar projects and ability to monitor these.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Project, etc.). Outstanding written, communication, and organizational skills.

Education and Experience Requirements 8+ years experience in building engineering design, documentation and construction administration of multiple projects, at least four of which should be in a supervisory capacity managing multi-disciplinary teams of at least five design professionals.

A Bachelors Degree in Engineering, with an area of specialization in one or more building disciplines, is required.

MS degree preferred.

A minimum of two years of experience coordinating and working with the various engineering disciplines.

Experience in PreK-12 Education Facilities is preferred.

Experience in high-performance projects is preferred.

LEED accreditation is preferred.

Certificates and Licenses Required A valid license to practice Engineering in the State of New Jersey Valid drivers license
