comPrimary Objective: The Principal Software Engineer will research, design, implement, and test highly complex and sophisticated software components.

This person has in-depth programming and product knowledge with proven strong technical skills, and project management skills.

This position generally works without consulting their manager, makes decisions independently, and has the ability to set own workload priorities based on deliverable dates.

Accountability/Scope (range of responsibilities): This individual reports to a Director of Software Engineering in the Data Compliance group.

This individual will be held accountable in understanding the life-cycle and product deliverables of the area in which they work.

This person must be self-motivated and self-directed and take a positive approach to working in a team environment.

May perform project management responsibilities coordinating and monitoring development projects from initiation to delivery.

Utilizes extensive knowledge, experience and judgment to accomplish tasks and is viewed as an expert by their peers for a product line or specific functional responsibility.

Does not supervise other employees.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities: · The Principal Software Engineer may act as project team leader and is an expert in at least one key area of the Mantra and Mantra Agent products.

· Responsibilities include system-level performance analysis and optimization of the fast-path packet and event processing within the network monitoring subsystem; and additional system-level feature development of Mantra and Mantra Agent software.

· Responsible for the complete development cycle including specification, design, review, implementation, and creation of the development test plans for each project undertaken.

· Must contribute in concept, design, and code reviews for projects inside and outside his or her immediate area of expertise.

· Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, testing, changes & corrections.

· Provide product content to Technical Writers.

· Provide assistance to the sustaining, customer support, and system engineering organizations.

· Present and/or distribute summary information about new areas of technology and/or changes to existing areas of technology to members of SW department as well as Sustaining, Customer Support, Systems Engineering.

· Attend department meetings and provide input to establish and improve processes and procedures.

· Work with and establish relationships with all team members.

· Develop designs that will be reliable and available within schedule.

· Responsible for influencing the technical direction of the Mantra and Mantra Agent products.

· Effectively contribute and may facilitate projects and technical discussions· Mentor and provide technical training to other software engineers· Design patentable technology and propose and review patent applications· May meet with customers to discuss technical issues and requirements· Contribute to development processes and procedures· May assist management in the technical directionSkills Required: · Experience developing a network security system or equivalent.
