Principal Engineer - Electrical Job in San Diego 92108, California US
Principal Engineer - Electrical Security Clearance No Clearance Job Description - Overall expert in the design and development of the ships propulsion system.
- Responsible for the Electrical Power Design Architecture.
- Develop and maintain the Electrical Plant Load Analysis which shall include definition of operating conditions, loads by categories, rated horsepower, rated kwm(HP), connected kWe, load factors and operating and weather conditions.
- Develop and maintain Electrical System One-Lin Diagram, showing type and size of all generators, cables, power and lighting feeder and branch circuits, transformers, circuit breakers, contactors, relays equipped with shunt or under-voltage trip features and circuit resultant load current.
- Develop and maintain Electrical System Fault Current Analysis, identifying the ship's electrical system fault current calculations under both the minimum and maximum fault current conditions.
- Develop and maintain Protective Device Coordination Study to provide selectivity between protective devices ie the protective device closest to the fault operates to clear the fault.
- Responsible for the development and updating the Single Source Vendor Purchase Specification.
(includes propulsion motor, bow thruster, centralized control system MCCS, HV transformers, syncro-converters, harmonic filters, Main Switchboards) - Develop and maintain Switchboard Purchase Specification.
(Switchboard, motor control center, and shore power)- Knowledgeable with regulatory body's requirements including ABS, IEEE, Solas and ACP.- Represent company in discussions with regulatory bodies, owners, suppliers, customers on technical subjects.
- Provide technical leadership to Cognizant Engineers within design responsibilities.
Required Education/Training College graduate with Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
Advanced technical degree or PE license highly desirable.
Experience Fifteen (15) years experience in relevant Marine field.
Eight (8) years experience in job specific discipline.
Unique/Additional Requirements Principle Engineer - ElectricalSelected for position by consensus of Engineering Management Committee, comprised of VP Engineering and Engineering Managers.
Demonstrated and broadly recognized expertise within discipline supported by feedback from the industry.Has suitable broad expertise and ship design knowledge within other disciplines to effectively generate designs that consider benefits and impacts for the total ship product.
Effective presentation and negotiation skills.
Ability to present and discuss different technical issues to both technical and non-technical personnel to facilitate understanding and decision-making.
