SAIC: From Science to Solutions® The Basic Science Program pursues independent, multidisciplinary research programs in basic or applied molecular biology, immunology, retrovirology, cancer biology or human genetics.
Research efforts and support are an integral part of the Center for Cancer Research at the National Cancer Institute.
The current focus of the laboratory is to identify and define the function of transcriptional regulators and gene regulatory networks that regulate the development of hematopoietic cells.
These proteins are the down stream mediators of extrinsic and intrinsic cell signals, and are critical for lineage determination, lineage specific gene expression, and are frequently deregulated or mutated in leukemia.
Will support the Hematapoiesis & Stem Cell Biology Section, Laboratory of Cancer Prevention.
Research will focus on projects on the molecular regulation of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell quiescence, self-renewal, growth and cell fate.
Particular emphasis will be placed on defining the functional role of transcription factors in these processes.
These studies will also evaluate if these transcriptional regulators are required for the initiation and progression of leukemia.
Will design, perform and troubleshoot experiments independently.
Will also interpret, summarize and report results in an oral and written format.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Possession of a Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to bio-medical research.
Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the US must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the US. No experience is required beyond the educational requirement.
Experience in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry is required.
This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
