Physician Assistant II Job in Providence 02906, Rhode Island US
Under the general supervision of the Acting Director of General Surgery or his designee and Director, Surgical Business Affairs, performs a variety of duties to encompass, but are not limited to the care and management of pre and post operative general surgical patients, including assisting in the operating rooms.
Works in a collaborative team environment that supports the academic mission to train surgical residents.
All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient.
Duties Include: Works closely with the surgical residents as part of the surgical team to coordinate patient care needs day-to-day to support teaching and non-teaching patients.
Receives clinical assignments as determined by the Supervisor, Physician Assistants.
Obtains and records detailed medical histories.
Performs and records complete and detailed physical examinations.
Records all pertinent patient information in the progress notes within the medical records.
Assists in the preparation of discharge summaries for the attending physician's signature.
Initiates life saving measures in emergency situations until aid arrives.
Initiates patient orders for admission as directed by the physician and in accordance with the hospital procedure.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Graduate of a Physician's Assistant Program with current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Rhode Island.
Certification by the National Commission on the Accreditation of Physician Assistants.
Certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Life Support.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE: Three to five years experience in a clinical general surgical practice and procedure.
Additionally, experience in emergency room procedure, preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS: Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.
Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards.
May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
INDEPENDENT ACTION: Incumbent functions independently within a broad scope of departmental policies and practices; generally refers specific problems to Acting Director of General Surgery or his delegate, or Director of Surgical Business Affairs, only where clarification of department policies and procedures may be required.
