Patent Counsel Job in Cambridge 02139, Massachusetts US
Position Description/Responsibilities: Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc., an innovative drug discovery and development company, is seeking a Patent Counsel capable of developing and implementing strategies that will allow Infinity to protect and exploit its proprietary interests and obtain freedom to operate for its product candidates.
The successful applicant will work closely with Infinitys senior leadership, multiple internal functional groups, and outside counsel.
Specific responsibilities include: Developing, directing and executing Infinitys intellectual property strategyCounseling product development teams and senior leadership on intellectual property mattersIdentifying potentially patentable subject matter Preparing and prosecuting patent applications throughout the worldReviewing and analyzing third party intellectual property to ensure freedom to operate, including preparation of infringement/validity analysesManaging Infinitys trademark portfolioSupporting business development activities, including conduct of due diligenceDrafting and negotiating technology-related agreements, including materials transfer, research and license agreementsSupervising and mentoring Patent Agent Success in this role will require thoughtful leadership and the drive to execute strategy in an interactive and open environment.
The ability to interact effectively with internal and external audiences and capture the big picture vision is critical.
At the same time, this position requires the successful candidate to roll up his/her sleeves and draft/prosecute patent applications.
Requirements 4-7 years patent practice experience in small molecule pharmaceuticals; prior in-house experience a plusJD from an accredited US law schoolRegistration to practice before the US Patent & Trademark Office and admission to at least one state bar (Massachusetts preferred)Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in chemistry, biochemistry or biology preferredPrior responsibility supervising a staff of patent attorneys/agents preferredAbility to communicate effectively with scientists as well as business and legal professionals, internal and external to Infinity, including senior management Ability to distill complexity with clarity and precision and to act decisivelyAbility to develop effective working relationships in a collegial environment Ability to be a team player and work collaboratively to obtain resultsAbility to exercise discretion and sound judgment in decision-making with limited supervision
