Product areas in the departments can range from Fire Support and Battle Management Command and Control (C2) Solutions to military radios and radio systems (receivers, transmitters, associated interfaces, and control units), to electronic warfare systems to software defined radios.

Development stages span advanced development, research & development, design for production, certification, and production support.

Program areas span, not only domestic sales, but also Foreign Military and International sales.

The Software Engineering Department Manager oversees Engineering Supervisors who lead over 100 software engineers.

From a management perspective, this job includes resource management, employee performance development, performance assessment, enabling employee productivity improvement (including CMMI, Network Centric Systems (NCS) Common Processes, and Raytheon Six Sigma), software engineering staffing, managing software engineering cost accounts using EVMS, dealing with personnel issues, ensuring compliance to Raytheon policies/procedures, and coordinates program specific training.

From a technical perspective, this job involves leading all software activities associated with the designated scope of work.

This manager is responsible for successful development of software products ensuring completion within cost, schedule and performance constraints, consistent with NCS CMMI-based processes.

This manager is responsible for review and approval of program-specific process tailoring, software effort estimates, and planning documents.

He or she works closely with program leads to manage program risks and opportunities.

This job also involves participation on independent assessment teams to evaluate selected program performance and to recommend improvements.

Required Skills: Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years engineering experience with at least 5 years in software engineering performing requirements management; software development; integration and test; and/or modeling, simulation and analysis.

Some travel may be involved.

The Software Engineering Department Manager must: Prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment, Work well in a team environment, Display effective interpersonal communication skills, Display strong technical writing and oral presentation skills, Have proven problem-solving skills, Have proven ability to mentor and develop team members, develop organizational leaders, and manage performance of a team.

Must be able to obtain US DoD clearance.

Desired Skills: A background in US Department of Defense software development and integration is desired.

Also desired is familiarity or experience with object oriented engineering methods, use of Unified Modeling Language, Model-Driven Architecture, and Service Oriented Architecture.

Experience with engineering processes and procedures are desired.

Training and experience implementing Six Sigma concepts is also desired.

Required Education (including Major): Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, or similar technical degree.

Advanced degrees preferred.
