Machinist Job in 02116
T MACHINIST (MECHANIC) The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is seeking qualifi ed candidates for the position of Machinist.
Candidates for this position will maintain, inspect, test, diagnose, fuel, service, alter, rebuild and repair the electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and air-conditioning equipment of buses, trucks and other automotive vehicles.
The Machinist duties also include: inspecting, testing, altering and repairing diesel and gasoline engines, clutches, transmissions, axles, generators,compressors, air-conditioning systems, brake assemblies, and electrical and mechanical accessories; performing timely repairsin response to road failures and vehicle defects; aligning wheels and steering equipment; relining and adjusting brakes andclutches; and using and operating various types of equipment.
Qualified candidates must have: a high school diploma orequivalent (G.
ED) with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries,etc.
in English; two (2) years of work experience in transportation vehicle repair, including diagnostics, engine overhauls, andpreventative maintenance programs; a valid drivers license; the ability to use Automotive Maintenance Software applications;and the ability to pass: the Machinist exam; background screenings; a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check;and the MBTAs medical requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
Substitutions Include: knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic theory and principles as acquired through a two (2) year technical orvocational training program, including but not limited to a college degree program, high school vocational program, unionapprenticeship, United States Armed Services training.
