Today, SunGard works with thousands of institutional and independent customers in the wealth management industry.
These firms have realized that by utilizing an integrated technology platform to help link activities across the lifecycle, they are able to focus more time and energy on their clients needs rather than on underlying business processes.
Approximately 2,500 customers use SunGard's wealth management platforms SunGard processes 500,000 transactions per day on its accounting platforms Some 600 customers, managing more than 650,000 accounts equaling more than $3.
4 trillion in assets, use SunGards accounting platforms STN connects approximately 1,900 asset managers, 650 issuers, 270 broker-dealers representing 500 global trading destinationsThe Security Officer is responsible for assisting the Segment Security Officer in developing the strategic vision for security and risk management within the segment, partnering with the business unit(s) that they have been assigned responsibility for, and ensuring that security objectives are implemented within the business units.
As a member of the team, the Security Officer is expected to maintain a good understanding of the business units mission, products, culture, and direction.
Using this as a foundation, the Security Officer is expected to provide leadership to the business in mitigating risk while following the strategic direction of security set by the Segment Security Officer, Corporate Information Security, and senior management.
In order to achieve this, the Security Officer must possess certain qualities such as an in-depth understanding of security technologies and practices, business diplomacy, being a creative problem-solver, leadership, and high quality business communication skills.
Position Requirements: Security certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, SANS, and others would be beneficial.
Degrees such as in business or technololgy areas would also be beneficial.
Prior demonstrated experience, as well as broad and diversified skills and education, are all important factors.
The Security Officer will possess a collaborative outlook and a proven record as a team player and business partner.
The Security Officer will need to be quickly recognized as a highly credible, approachable, resource.
Position Attributes: Some of the responsibilities include: Job Responsibilities
1. Information Gathering and Risk Assessment: The Security Officer is responsible and accountable for gathering, assessing, and disseminating information related to a wide range of security data specific to the business units and their operations that can potentially impact the security and safety of personnel, profitability, operations, and reputation.
In addition, the Security Officer must logically determine the probability of security related events and work with the Segment Security Officer and the business unit(s) to develop preventive strategies consistent with specified internal controls of the company and best practices.
This will require the linking of often disparate information from multiple sources including company (SunGard) or segment specific programs and requirements, government(s) regulatory requirements, and best practices within the security industry2 Preparedness: The Security Officer is responsible and accountable to ensure the business units are prepared for the possibility of attack, catastrophic event, or significant event (major fraud, security breach, data compromise, etc).
This includes the development and documentation of response and recovery plans for such an event as well as ensuring periodic testing of these plans and coordination during an actual event.
Disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident management, etc for the business unit(s) assigned to the Security Officer are within the scope of responsibility3 Incident Prevention: The Security Officer is responsible for the analysis of information and coordination of activities with both internal personnel and external resources to prevent attacks, catastrophic events, and significant events within the business units that they have been assigned responsibility for. This requires the ability to successfully operate both independently and as part of a team in fast-paced, matrix-managed environments requiring the ability to deal with ambiguity and using positive political skills to ensure a proactive approach for success.
The Security Officer must understand how and when to enlist the support of business unit management and other resources to ensure effective risk mitigation to the business4 Securing People, Core Business, Information and Reputation: Protection of the companys integrity, people, processes, and assets from harm and loss is a key responsibility.
While physical and information assets are clearly a focus, the Security Officer must also be adept at recognizing and countering potential risks involved in the loss of intangibles such as reputation, intellectual property, trade secrets, and personally identifiable information kept in the custody of business units they have responsibility for5 Incident Response, Management, and Recovery: In the case of an attack, catastrophe, or significant event, the Security Officer will be responsible for coordinating efforts within the business unit to restore critical systems and operations.
This will require the coordination and management of both internal and external resources to ensure adequate support is provided to management, employees and customers that are affected or involved.
It will also be necessary to coordinate with the Segment Security Officer and other senior management.
