JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides technical and scientific expertise for programs in the areas of communicable disease, chronic disease and environmental epidemiology.

Designs, conducts and reports on the epidemiological study of diseases, collects and analyzes data and develops health education materials.

Manages and participates in investigations and surveys that have national and international impact.

Conducts program research and prepares operational and statistical reports.

May write publishable articles and papers.

Serves as a liaison to and works with other groups and organizations participating in related programs.

May travel internationally to supervise field operations.

**PLEASE READ: POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Program Epidemiologist (PE) is responsible for providing technical and scientific support to the International Trachoma Initiative (ITI), which oversees the donation of Zithromax by Pfizer, Inc. for the global elimination of blinding trachoma by 2020.The PE will also assist in the integration of trachoma with other Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) health programs.

The PE will have a primary focus of: conducting surveys; monitoring and evaluation of activities; and carrying out operational research in support of ITI and the other NTD programs of the Task Force for Global Health (TFGH).

The PE will be reactive and responsive to data from the field and will assist in the development, application, expansion, and refinement of the program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The PE will perform the below duties in collaboration with and in support of the TFGH NTD programs: * Frequently travel to TFGH-supported countries to manage surveys; monitor progress against goals; evaluate impact of activities; and conduct operational research.

* Assist in the analysis of data for a Trachoma Atlas containing global trachoma prevalence data and the development of a GIS system.

* Assist and collaborate with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the development and field testing of an integrated mapping tool for NTDs.

* Collaborate with the World Health Organization (WHO) in developing surveillance systems post-intervention.

* Develop capacity in endemic countries on prevalence surveys and surveillance systems.

* Assist in the translation of field monitoring data, program evaluations, operational research, and newly published knowledge to policy and practice in ITI-supported trachoma control programs.

*Assist the ITI staff and national programs in conducting workshops and program reviews.

* Prepare oral and written reports, posters and presentations, including scientific papers for peer-reviewed journals and specialist scientific meetings.

Represent TFGH NTD programs at special-ist meetings and conferences.

* Contribute to the preparation and publication of program newsletters, routine internal reports, and reports to donors.

Represent ITI at non-technical meetings with the donors and the public.

* Contribute to the development and implementation of an operational research agenda designed to improve delivery and application of trachoma control strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree in a field related to area of research and four years specifically related experience.

International travel required.

Preferred Qualifications * A Masters level degree in epidemiology or a relevant public health degree and Epidemic Intelli-gence Service experience* Experience conducting disease prevalence surveys in developing countries, preferably Africa* Experience in trachoma and/or neglected tropical disease research* Extensive experience in project management and managing international field teams* Experience in training field teams* Ability to independently manage all stages of an operational research project * Proven ability to work successfully in rural areas of developing countries* A track record of writing and contributing to scientific publications* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Filemaker Pro, Endnote, and statistical software* Strong English writing and verbal communication skills* Proficiency in written and spoken French* Ability to undertake significant international travel (up to 40%) Additional Job Details The Task Force for Global Health, Inc. is a nonprofit public health organization that is based in Decatur, Georgia and is an affiliate of Emory University.
