PURPOSE:  ·         Develops and implements programs to reduce the $50 million corporate utility natural gas spend.

 Researches, develops and implements strategies to purchase natural gas in deregulated markets for retail and distribution center facilities.

 Provides guidance for all finance and accounting efforts related to utility expense forecasting and budgeting processes.

The incumbent collaborates with varied intra- company, consultant, vendor, and energy supplier work groups, such as finance, legal and business law, operations, and accounts payable to complete work and implement associated programs and processes.

 This position reports to and obtains guidance and direction from Director, Energy Management and Procurement has a positive and measurable impact to corporate earnings per share.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  ·         Directs procurement opportunities for deregulated natural gas for all qualifying Supervalu retail, distribution and office facilities.

Develops and administers RFIs and RFPs to prospective energy suppliers in a competitive bid environment.

Evaluates proposals and interviews perspective suppliers.

Directs pricing negotiations.

Oversees administration of approved contracts and verification of performance.

·         Reviews multi-year contracts and agreements for accuracy and completeness; coordinates approval of contracts through Supervalu legal and business law departments.

·         Contracts to support complex, multi-traunch purchases of natural gas based on forward NYMEX prices·         Incorporates commodity market volatility and both technical trading and market fundamentals to influence natural gas purchasing decisions·         Develops documentation and tracking of current hedge positions and ramifications to commitment and prior year expense based on proposed purchases and strike prices.

·         Works with AP and Director of Energy Management and Procurement to provide guidance toward the annual commitment development and period forecasting process for natural gas and water.

Reviews all budgets and tracks company performance while providing guidance on variances.

Directs corporate auditing and benchmarking program for natural gas usage.

·         Directs initiatives for review of gas regulated utility tariffs for the approximate 300 regulated utilities serving Supervalu facilities.

Leads efforts to negotiate favorable tariffs or rate reductions.

Communicates impacts of utility tariff changes for use in forecasting and budgets.

 ·         Develops understanding of Ancillary charges associated with wholesale natural gas purchases, to include, basis, capacity charges, renewables, losses, supplier fees, etc. Knowledge to include forecasting of future cost and impacts and risks to budgets and costs.

·         Acts as the company expert and representative for utility related issues with a primary focus on natural gas.·         Develops and implements various intra and inter department re-engineering, process improvement, change management, best practices initiatives that ultimately drive costs out of the business.

·         Project manage Biogas facility development and contract negotiation·         Develops proposals and prepares financial PFA documentation to support lease agreement, PPAs, or capital purchases for development of clean natural gas initiatives such as landfill gas development and waste to energy projects·         Interacts with all national and regional energy and supermarket trade associations as well as state-by-state utility companies to maintain complete understanding of the current and future market supply conditions.

To include understanding of wholesale natural gas markets across the various regions.

 Understand both long and short term energy markets and their impacts on purchasing decisions to included various Local Index pricing opportunities and NYMEX relationships.

·         Provides associated technical support and expertise for various departments within the corporation.

·         Provides direction and oversight to departmental staff.

·         Provides direction and oversight to 5-10 outside energy consultants and 100 energy supply and utility companies.

 PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:  No direct people responsibilities SCOPE DATA:  Annual natural gas utility budget approximately $50m.

Annual third party energy supply spending in excess of $20m.

 JOB REQUIREMENTS ·         BS Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance or related experience.

·         5 years related experience, or equivalent background.

The incumbent is a recognized expert in the field as well as a change management specialists.

 The incumbent oversees, directs and performs complex responsibilities with little to no supervision and with a very high level of autonomy.

·         Strong background in retail energy supply and energy contract negotiations.

·         Familiarity with accounting and finance principles required to perform financial evaluation of proposals.

·         Detailed understanding of the retail supply markets for natural gas. ·         Familiarity with United States EPA Energy Star, Green Lights and LEEDs programs preferred.

·         Strong process engineering, project management and contract negotiation skills.

·         Possess excellent management and leadership skills and the ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.

·         Possess strong background in computer techniques for processing large amounts of data and development of pricing models to predict costs and conduct sensitivity analysis using Microsoft Excel and/or Access programs.

·         Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

Must have the ability to represent the Company's interests to outside professionals and vendors.

 ·         Ability to work with minimum supervision to complete assigned tasks.

 PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:  ·         Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.

·         Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.

·         Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.

·         Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
