Electrician Job in Atlanta, Georgia US
Summary: Plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment by performing the following duties: Essential Functions: · Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials · Provide access for future maintenance and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring consistent with specifications and local electrical codes · Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment · Follows diagrams or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring · Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit · Pulls wires through conduit · Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps · Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment · Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels · Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads · Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscopes · Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement · Diagnoses problems and repairs faulty equipment or systems · Cuts and welds steel structural members Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of: · Electrical and maintenance, including installation of all sizes of electrical conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment, and pole line construction · Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions · National Electric Code and relevant City codes Skills in: · The care and use of hand tools and equipment necessary to perform various electrical repair tasks such as hickeys, volt meters, wiggins, meggars, and VOMs · Locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment · The operation of earth moving equipment, aerial equipment, and pneumatic equipment Ability to: · Distinguish between the full range of colors in the color spectrum to work with electrical wires · Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids · Estimate labor or material costs/amounts from blueprints or work plans · Make mathematical computations · Exercise independent thought and action within the scope of specific assignments · Comprehend and make interferences from written materials · Measure distance with a tape measure or other measuring device · Make precise are-hand positioning movements (i.
e., operates on electric hand drill) · Lift arms above shoulder level to work in ceiling areas, on light fixtures · Work in small, cramped areas such as ceiling crawl spaces, equipment enclosures, closets, etc. · Climb ladders or steps to reach work areas · Work at heights greater than ten feet · Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time · Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements · Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) long distances (more than 20 feet) · Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces · Express ideas on technical problems clearly and concisely orally and in writing · Work cooperatively with the other City employees, building occupants, and the public · Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
