The Opportunity: Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Electrical Designer position located in Alpharetta, GA. The Electrical Designer position is located in Alpharetta, GA. Electrical DesignerResponsibilities: Work under the technical supervision of an engineer to gather data; prepare technical specifications; create detailed physical and electrical designs, bills of materials, and job estimates; and prepare CAD drawings and other project documentation.
Provide engineering support to engineers and other SSD support personnel.
Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget to a high level of quality.
Develop and maintain a high level of expertise in the detail design practices of SEL protection and automation systems.
Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of SEL equipment and solutions to electric power system protection and automation.
Follow and improve applicable processes.
Qualifications: Two-year degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience Over two years of relevant experience with electrical system design Demonstrated competence in CADD drafting (AutoCAD or Microstation) Application experience with IEEE Designation Codes to drawings Experience in electric relay controls systems Experience with schematic diagrams for the electric power industry Good speaking and writing skills Willing to travel up to 20% Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment Background checks satisfactory to SELPreferred Qualifications: Experience being part of project teams Electrical utility, consulting or system integrator experience Knowledge of protective relay applications and/or automation applications
