We are currently seeking a Manager of EHS for John Crane Americas to join our team in Morton Grove, IL. SUMMARY: The Manager of EHS is responsible to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of its employees and others affected by its business operations for through world-class EHS performance, and is accountable for compliance with regulations and recognized standards for health & safety and environmental performance that are applicable to the business & its key stakeholders.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish JCA EHS/WC/LP strategies and goals necessary to achieve excellence in performance.
Implement and maintain JCA Management Systems, including ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, to effectively execute EHS/WC/LP obligations.
Develop and implement JCA EHS/WC/LP policies, standards, guidelines and programs to meet the overall improvement strategy Defines, develops, implements and leads common best practice based safety systems and drives cultural change and continuous improvement processes to deliver world class EHS performance.
Monitor key EHS performance metrics to measure performance progress and to evaluate EHS/WC/LP programs effectiveness.
Advises organization leaders on performance improvements.
Provide strategic direction and assistance to JCA facilities Works with regional management teams to support EHS continuous improvement activities Develops two-way communication with employees, customers, contractors, and suppliers regarding our EHS policy and procedures Manages the JC Inc USA EHS function including direct accountability for the ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 management systems.
Participate in external EHS organizations and trade associations to understand emerging EHS trends and represent JCA interests.
Provide interpretation and guidance on compliance processes for EHS/WC laws and regulations as well as Company policies, standards, guidelines, and goals.
Manage the JCA EHS/LP audit process to provide assurance that management systems are in place and the organization is in compliance with all laws, regulations and company policies.
Develop, implement, and oversee JCA specific training programs.
Provide technical EHS/LP specialty support to JCA facilities Identify key EHS/WC/LP issues impacting the business for management attention and action.
Work with facility and line management to assure that competent EHS/WC/LP personnel are in place at each facility and that professional development is occurring.
Direct EHS and Loss Prevention analysis and provide technical assistance during due diligence activities for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.
Co-Chairs the JCA EHS Council Co-manage Workers Compensation with the Human Resources Department Member of the John Crane EHS Council Performs all tasks in accordance with John Crane and Smiths Group Business Conduct Guidelines.
Travel domestic and international approximately 50percent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 5-10 years of progressive experience leading EHS/WC/LP in an international and multi-site organization, with a proven record of establishing premier programs and delivering significant continuous performance improvements Experienced and comfortable working with organization senior leaders Experienced at leading ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18801, or similar, best in class environmental, health and safety management systems.
Experience in machining or heavy industrial manufacturing Experience managing relationships with both internal & external stakeholders Able to develop and present concise business cases tailored to the needs of the organizations and audience.
Strong influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to gain commitment at all levels within the organization.
Able to focus on strategic issues but also capable of getting involved with details, where necessary.
Possess cross-cultural skills necessary to operate successfully with international locations.
Able to develop a strong network of relationships both internally and externally.
High level of professional and personal conduct, energy and enthusiasm, requiring limited oversight Capable of assessing EHS organizational weaknesses and providing recommendations for improvement.
Experienced at identifying development needs of site EHS leads and, in conjunction with their supervisors, implement individual development plans Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk assessments and reduction, including machinery & process safety, industrial hygiene, loss prevention, ergonomics and occupational health.
Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of fire protection and loss prevention engineering Excellent presentation and training skills Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Skilled at using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) Bilingual English / Spanish strongly preferred Functional/Technical Skills Creating a Safety Culture Workplace Monitoring, Exposure Assessment and Control Waste Management Emissions, Water, Toxic Substances Auditing Remediation Risk Management & Loss Prevention Workers Compensation Management Core Competencies Ethics & Values Informing Managerial Courage Listening Managing & Measuring Work Motivating Others Priority Setting Process Management Education/Certifications A secondary education degree (or college degree) in Health and Safety or Environmental or related technical discipline is required.
Certification as a Safety Professional is preferred.
