The Director of Security is responsible for the operation of the community access control systems and staff as well as the operation of the community services provided by the community patrol officers.

This includes responsibility for all access control and community service functions including all equipment and systems, vehicles, manned and unmanned gates, communications equipment and licensing, applications software for alarm monitoring and applications software for access control and computer systems.

The Director will be responsible for all member records, safety, guest and vendor records, departmental budget, monthly and periodic reports, and supervision and training of department personnel.

Compiles, analyzes and maintains the statistical data for the Association.

FUNCTIONS: The Director of Security will provide leadership and be adept at community relations.

The Director will train the members of the department to provide excellent customer service and always be respectful and professional in delivering services to the community.

The Security Director is responsible for records including confidential records and information regarding members and their guest and vendors.

The Director will insure that all information about the members, their guests and vendors remains confidential.

Acts as liaison on access control and community service function matters between the Association and (i) vendors, (ii) guests, (iii) visitors, (iv) contractors (v) law enforcement agencies, (vi) Security Committee, (vii) Board of Directors and (viii) members.

The Director supervises the staff and systems for access control and community service functions including rules enforcement, access control systems management, community services, liaison to authorities in event of natural disaster or emergency and other functions as assigned.

The Director of Security will insure that the department staff are properly trained and certified in all aspect of their duties and responsibilities.

This includes weapons certification, certification with California Department of Consumer Affairs with Guard Cards, first aid, CPR, AED, community rules and regulations and policies and procedures of the department.

Coordinates engagement of vendors to provide maintenance services for all access control, communications and computer equipment assigned to the department.

The Director is responsible to insure that all special events and activities are coordinated for access control and community service.

Assists the General Manager and Director of Financial Services in the preparation of annual budget, forecasts, and any other planning and analysis required.

Responsible for loss prevention, site safety and safety training for all Association personnel.

Monitors and maintains a safety training program as well as the disaster preparedness program for the community.

The Director acts as liaison with the Security Committee.

The Director makes recommendations to management regarding safety, access control, community service and rules enforcement.

Provides guidance and assistance to fire and police officials handling emergency response.

Assists the community in education programs regarding safety, community access, community rules and urban wildlife interface.

Responsible for the administration and staffing of the access control personnel as well as the patrol officers in their community service functions.

The Director will monitor personnel functions including performance evaluations, overtime, and staffing levels.

The Security Directors will monitor daily logs and incident reports.

The Director will be responsible for rules enforcement, notices of violation and the imposition of fines for rules violations.

Makes recommendations to General Manager on current policy issues and maintains the post orders for the daily operations.

Insures that access control and community service reporting functions and data are provided in an accurate and timely manner.

The Director will assign and deploy the staff as the community needs dictate.

The Director of Security will attend Security Committee meetings and record and prepare the minutes and agenda for the Security Committee meetings.

The Director will attend other community meetings as required.

REPORTING: Reports to and takes direction from the General Manager.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Baccalaureate degree in field related to access control and community service (or associated field) with a general knowledge of and experience in management and operations of twenty-four hour per day seven day per week organization.

Experience and technical training may be substituted for degree.

Course work and education related to access control and systems and community service function, including but not limited to risk management, loss prevention, financial responsibility, contract management and staff supervision.

Experience managing homeowners association access control and security systems.

Knowledge of reporting and monitoring systems with different software applications programs.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, clients, the general public and to resolve conflicts and problems courteously and tactfully.

Able to deliver and train subordinates to deliver excellent customer service and track and monitor customer satisfaction with services delivered.

Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate facts and to prepare and present concise oral and written reports and make formal presentations before groups.

Previous experience and skill in contract management including reference checking, contractor supervision and application of laws and ordinances related to contract management.

Familiarity with rules enforcement including the California Vehicle Code and other laws and regulations related to loss prevent and security.

Takes initiative and focuses on quality and accuracy in all facets of work and communicates this to staff members supervised.

Knowledge of proper English, grammar, spelling and vocabulary usage in a business setting.

Knowledge of association documents and the governance structure of a large-scale community association.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS California Drivers LicenseAbility to obtain a California Guard CardAbility to sit or stand for extended periods.

Ability to lift up to and including 50 pounds.
