A global supplier of consumer durables with respected brands and annual revenues exceeding $1 billion, is seeking a Director of Marketing to lead a core business group in the US. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing the Director will be responsible for managing and leading the strategic direction of the product, channel and brand marketing aspects of the business to drive increased revenue growth, profit, and long term strategic positioning.
Working collaboratively with all functional areas of the business, the Director of Marketing will be tasked with driving an innovative product category and marketing plans to ensure shareholder value creation and competitive advantage for the business.
He/she will lead a team of product, channel and brand managers responsible for comprehensive category management of the business including, new product development, product lifecycle management, brand management, pricing, promotions, advertising and product engineering.
The individual will have ownership of the associated margins, profitability, and operating expenses.
Primary Responsibilities: Drive business strategy, develop business plans and lead all aspects of the marketing mix; product, brand, and advertising, objectives, plans, and initiatives in order to achieve short and long-term, revenue and profitability goals.
Oversee product management, product engineering, pricing, advertising, packaging, and collateral materials for the category.
This will involve close collaboration with internal cross shared functional groups and outside vendors, as required.
Assess and evaluate the channels of distribution to devise appropriate channel marketing strategies pertinent to the existing and targeted customer base, and to improve overall results.
Also, coordinate and implement programs targeted for specific consumer and trade market segments.
Enhance and build brand awareness in order to capitalize and leverage the company's competitive advantage - brand equity, and product value and quality.
Develop and execute 3-5 year product development roadmap in conjunction with the cross-functional team.
Build market driven orientation and focus on the consumer/customer to create competitive advantage.
Issue monthly status report regarding marketing and product progress focusing on key success factors.
Manage and schedule project load for product management.
Develop and train marketing team personnel; continuously review performance of all aspects of the product group compared to plans and objectives.
Establish strong communication and partnering relationships between marketing and a shared selling organization that manage key accounts in Retail, Mass, Commercial and specialty channels.
Assure that all pertinent market intelligence is gathered and analyzed including a thorough understanding of customer needs, market trends, competitive strengths and weaknesses, and market opportunities.
Ensure timely adjustments to changing markets and competitive conditions through continuous analysis of market reaction and customer contact.
Identify cost savings opportunities and direct values analysis/value enhancement programs to maximize profits and market penetration with respective product lines.
Develop, champion and refine key marketing processes for the business.
Instill an atmosphere of creativity and innovation that drives growth and innovation while embracing the operating, cultural values, and principles of the corporation.
Lead, develop and cascade clearly defined goals and objectives for team members.
Ensure that the strategic business plan is well communicated and understood by all.Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a proven and accomplished marketing lead with significant business accomplishments and a progressive career history most recently in a role as a Director of Marketing in a branded consumer Durables Company--ideally a leader with products sold through multiple distribution channels.
The Director of Marketing will be a dynamic natural leader with an exceptional value orientation toward operating excellence; this person will have a passion for driving innovation and process discipline while empowering individuals across the organization.
He/She will have a demonstrated track record of success related to developing growth plans and launching new products while proactively entering new markets/channels.
A history of successfully influencing teams internally while forging exceptional external relationships with agencies, customers and constituents of the business is paramount.
This candidate will possess leadership experience within an environment, which embraces cross-functional, collaborative team driven activities and will have personally developed idea generation capabilities, engagement skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
He/she will have demonstrated ability to lead others, mentor and develop talent.
Overall this director is upwardly mobile with the ability, based on performance, to progress beyond this role and advance further within the company.
The successful candidate will have: A minimum of 8+ years of marketing experience within branded consumer durables.
2+ years of People Management/ Supervisory experienceUndergraduate degree in Business Management or Marketing Required, MBA preferred.
Experience with products marketed through multiple channels of distribution including Big Box and Speciality retailers.
General management and strategic skills with complete understanding of the P&L.
Strong understanding of merchandising and promotions.
Previous experience with new product developmentPrevious expreience and understanding of go-to-market processStrong business acumen including a competent understanding of the other functional areas of the business spanning operations, finance and sales.
Hands-on orientation with a successful track record of leading a marketing function with a bias for action and drive for results.
A brand builder that will create a consistent yet innovative marketing approach and category management capability leveraging the legacy of the brand.
Outstanding leadership and team building skills.
