Working closely with the SVP, Corporate Affairs and Public Policy, the Director, Patient Advocacy, will be responsible for developing and managing the companys patient advocacy strategy across several functional areas, including marketing, communications, policy, and medical affairs.

This position will lead the companys ongoing efforts to build and sustain meaningful relationships and collaborations to support the needs of patients and advance our companys goals.

Major Job Responsibilities:
Developing, coordinating, and leading the companys patient advocacy strategy and plan across functional areas for key late stage development programs (HCV and CF);
Working collaboratively with marketing, communications, policy, and medical affairs teammates to ensure that patient advocacy efforts are aligned to meet company objectives and most effectively serve the needs of patients;
Working closely with the Commercial organization on key issues of importance for patients and patient advocates, including pricing and access, patient support and patient assistance programs;
Organizing and supporting the Companys patient advocacy, coalition-building, and education efforts;
Developing and leveraging high-level relationships with patient advocacy groups, and stakeholders to achieve Vertex goals, bring value to patients and enhance the Companys standing and reputation;
Providing direct support to facilitate successful advocacy coalition(s) for specific public policy goals, including viral hepatitis authorizing and appropriations legislation;
Working closely with external patient advocacy partners to enhance lobbying efforts by coordinating, integrating, and increasing outreach;
In partnership with communications team, integrating Vertexs public relations objectives with the patient advocacy strategy and identifying additional PR opportunities.


Contributing to initiatives that increase visibility and urgency for addressing chronic Hepatitis C, including regional and metropolitan area-based work with health departments;
Oversee the development and resource prioritization for the Companys annual patient advocacy strategy and plan
Identifying and pursuing additional opportunities to advance our companys business objectives;
Fulfilling other duties/projects as assigned;

Qualifications
Minimum of ten years current and relevant experience in Patient Advocacy, Public Health Policy, Healthcare, Communications, or related field(s);
Bachelors degree required.

An advanced degree within public health or public policy is highly desired;
Demonstrated outstanding strategic planning, communication and presentation skills;
Ability to travel up to 35%;
Pharmaceutical sector or non-profit sector and therapeutic area experience preferred;
A high level of energy and passion toward patients, science and public health;
Working knowledge and appreciation of the complexities of the drug development process and regulatory requirements;
Understanding of the patient and caregiver experience in HCV/CF to include screening, diagnosis, treatment, and treatment options preferred;
Knowledge of the patient advocacy community/individuals in HCV/CF preferred;
Proven teamwork and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to interact and influence all levels of business;
Detail-oriented, self-initiating, well-organized and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously;
