Controls Engineer Job in Elmhurst 60126, Illinois US
Controls Engineer Evaluate and develop automated control systems for new and existing equipment, including automated and semi-automated systems for assembly cells.
Evaluate the latest technologies as related to control systems for possible application and / or modernization of current equipment and systems.
Develop documentation to support new equipment, including drawings, bills of material, test and inspection procedures, and product manuals.
Provide engineering support to effect repairs, upgrades and retro-fits as directed for the above systems.
Duties: Design and develop machine control systems.
Interface with other Engineers, Machine Builders, and Electricians as related to the position description.
Create all drawings as related to a given machines electrical control system, including schematics, panel and cabinet layout, fabrication, and assembly drawings.
Develop machine process control logic.
Select machine electrical components, including sensors, processor (PLC, PC), enclosures, pushbuttons, motors, etc. Wire and trouble-shoot all machine electrical components.
Perform and document all machine programming.
Interface with other departments to create or modify control systems, process logic, and trouble-shoot problems.
Coordinate communications with and services provided by outside vendors, including component selection, training, build services, etc. Assist in the development and maintenance of engineering standards, files, records, drawings, etc. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must be capable of sound decision making Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
Possess good interpersonal skills and be a team player.
Proficient at PLC Programming and HMI Design.
Preferred Background and Skills: Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years focused experience designing control systems for custom automation equipment including hands on equipment installation and start-up experience.
Experienced user of AutoCAD or Solid Works, MS Office, Excel, Word, Project.
Experience working with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs (ControlLogix and Step 7).
