Communications Consultant Job in New York, New York US
The position will require the individual to split their time between media relations (60%) and internal communications (40%).
Media emphasis will be on supporting Commercial Insurance as well as the P&C and Life & Health reinsurance units.
Internal communications assignments include writing, web publishing and coordinating employee activities and events in the Toronto office.
Additional assignments will be given as time allows and determined by the head of media relations in cooperation with the head of internal communications.
Essential responsibilities: The incumbent works with the head of media relations to develop and execute media strategy for the P&C and Life & Health businesses in the Americas and works with key stakeholders to develop and execute media strategy for the Commercial Insurance business.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: building and enhancing reporter relationships, responding to media inquiries, sourcing and facilitating interviews, identifying and leveraging bylined article opportunities, assisting with media training and messaging, and managing media measurement programs.
This position provides editorial and writing support to senior leadership, including but not limited to: speech writing, copy writing and various writing/editing support to Client Markets Americas, various functions and corporate centers.
Additionally, the position supports all areas of the Americas Communications with content development, writing and editing support.
This incumbent is responsible for ensuring internal communications, announcements and other employee communications initiatives are executed in the Toronto office and coordinated with other locations throughout the Americas.The incumbent will be trained in web publishing for all business units and must understand how to leverage Swiss Re's various online platforms for maximum impact.The position also manages special projects and supports and implements Group initiatives tailored to an Americas-based audience.
This includes launching new tools, procedures, policies or initiatives, as well as coordinating similar activities among the business groups.
Requirements: Requires the highest level of written communication skills with clear understanding of the value created by professional communications.At least 5-7 years of journalism and/or public relations writing experience as well as experience in media relations and web publishing.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism or Liberal Arts preferred, but other fields may be acceptable.
General knowledge of financial services is essential and an understanding of insurance and reinsurance is preferred.
Outstanding interpersonal, teaming and verbal skills to work within a matrix organization and relationship building capabilities at all levels and across cultures.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, web publishing and related software packages.
Must be able to work independently under general supervision.
