Job Title: Senior Developer, Application Architecture Job Class: Exempt Reports to: Manager, Strategic Development Department: Information Technology Job Summary: The Senior Developer- Application Architecture function creates and maintains external constituent facing portal software and internal enterprise wide applications for the organization while ensuring high levels of availability, quality, integrity, consistency, and best practices.

This position will design, develop, test, implement, and maintain software to expand Meritains competitive advantage in the market place.

This role will assist in managing the development process and act as a mentor to other developers on the team.

Additionally, this role will interface with our business partners to provide the highest levels of service and achievement of department and company goals.

Essential Duties: Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain enterprise wide business solutions Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain member, employer, provider, and broker portal solutions Adhere to and recommend improvements to the development process Create solutions applying best practices for presentation, application tier, back-end development Mentor and assist other developers on the team Actively participate in the software Change Management Process such that we mitigate technology risks Evaluate service requests and accurately size development effort involved to implement Recommend enhancements to our portal infrastructure to provide better services, capabilities, and security Evaluate commercial software and provide recommendations when required Occasional national travel to work in remote offices Assist in definition and implementation of best practice policies Assist in the development of application management policies and procedures Collaborate with database administrators and disaster recovery program manager to ensure effective protection and integrity of portal applications Develop automation and monitoring of all portal systems Assist in developing high-level, detailed requirements while presenting both technical and business facts with options to Enterprises.

Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical design solutions Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 5+ years of software development experience 5+ years of relational database experience 4+ years of object oriented development experience 3+ years of web development experience 2+ years in a mid/senior level development role Extensive experience with Microsoft .NET or Java technologies Extensive experience with traditional client/server and n-tier architecture Experience with Service Oriented Architecture Solid understanding of HTTP, SOAP, SSL, and TCP/IP protocols Solid understanding of object oriented design, development, and analysis Ability to perform on a high-delivery, geographically distributed team Knowledge and demonstrated experience of all phases of software development life cycle Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to work under pressure and meet goals Strong analytical skills along with conceptual design skills Ability to research and seek appropriate technical solutions to business problems Ability to mentor, coach, and lead by example Willingness to nationally travel on occasion to remote offices Willingness to work outside business hours on occasion Qualification Standards A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience with a major in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.

A minimum of four years experience in business systems development.

Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with a claim adjudication system.

Prior experience with high availability, highly integrated web applications.

Prior experience with Microsoft SharePoint.

Prior experience in the health care payer market space
