Position and Department Summary: The Director of Post Production Facility Operations is a member of the Production Center Operations Management team.

The Director is responsible the overall day to day technical operations of the DPG Production Center Facility in Silver Spring.

The team consists of Post Production Operations (Audio, Editing, Graphics, Studio) and Media Operations (Ingest, Encoding, Duplication and Quality Control) technicians who select, prepare, and rearrange the content of completed productions.

Discovery Production Group is a part of DCI's Corporate Operations Group and is a corporate services organization dedicated to providing integrated solutions to meet the networks' needs from production to air. Responsibilities

1. Primary Function * Responsible for day to day operation of post production facility technical operations * Responsible overseeing all post production editors, audio engineers, graphic operators, QC technicians, duplication and encoding editors and their associated work product; work is subject to general review * Supervises the work and professional development of Supervising Editors, Editors and Assistant Editors, Audio Supervisors, Audio Engineers, Audio Technicians, Graphic Operators, Core Services Supervisors and Technicians, Encoding and Authoring Supervisors and Editors; approves schedules of subordinates; approves vacations and time-off * Oversees the activities of Supervising Managers, Managers, and Supervisors, across seven days a week, three shifts a day, at DPG Facility in Silver Spring * Analyzes, approves and monitors the assignments and development of all post production technical personnel at all levels * Sets the tone and style of the Post Production Editing, Audio, Duplication, Quality Control and Encoding functions * Oversees or arranges for the training and development needs of subordinate personne

2. Impact/Scope * Establishes new post production processes, procedures and methods that improve outcomes, quality, and facility operations * Recognized as an expert in post production operations * Accountable for full adherence to established DCI and DPG editorial, technical, content and quality standards * Reviews the quality, quantity and excellence of the work of subordinate post production staf

3. Decision-Making * Reviews and approves the assignments of post production staff as well as post production schedules and budgets * Develops and recommends new post production methods and processes * Makes and adjusts the assignments of all post production staff * Allocates human resources to post production tasks and project

4. Communications/Influence * Primary purpose of communications is to transmit complex information and to influence post production personnel regarding schedules, costs, and resources * Is the "mentor" of all post production staff and oversees the personal and professional development of each member of the staff * Must understand the nature of all post production assignments and the ramifications of each upon the development and skills of each member of the post production staf

5. Leadership * Work is reviewed by management at major milestones * Provides coaching, mentoring and training to the post production staff; serves as a content / technical expert on post production * Conducts the performance evaluations of subordinates; recommends compensation adjustments * Leads in the selection, evaluation and hiring of staff * Adjusts the priorities and schedules of all personnel to ensure the timely completion of assigned programs and projects * Leads, guides and encourages others in their work and personal developmen

6. Financial Accountability * Oversees and participates in tracking and reporting on post production facility operating budgets and schedules and on the utilization of the post production staff * Reviews and approve overtime work by the staff * Reviews and approves contracts for third-party personnel and service

7. Relationship/Client Management * Serves as the primary "face" of post production facilities to client networks and to other departments of DPG * Serves as primary contact with the post production staff * Is in regular communications with the production personnel from client network

10. years of progressively complex related post production facility management experience * Has in-depth knowledge of all areas of the production management process; is a recognized expert in post production operations * Has in-depth skills on a variety of technology platforms * Has in-depth working knowledge of video signal measurement and of the operation of oscilloscopes measuring video signals * Has in-depth expertise on a specific types of equipment such as PC-based non-linear editing equipment, switchers and edit controllers, audio mixers, encoding systems, SANs, and routers * Has well founded understanding of Windows and MAC operating systems including file management hardware * Has expert understanding of VTR operations * Has excellent people management skills and equally excellent capabilities in the professional development of post production personnel * Has excellent time management and multi-tasking skills and makes schedule adjustments * Possesses excellent coaching skills particularly vis- -vis post production personnel * Must have the legal right to work in the United States
