TEST ENGINEER 3
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Member of a team of engineers responsible for the design, development, test, deployment, and maintenance of a test process for UNIX data center servers.
Manufacturing operations engineering position responsible for producing a repeatable system level test process for data center servers.
Requirements and parameters for the test process will be defined by a product engineering organization.
The test process is implemented using sun provided diagnostics or other tools.Key Responsibilities & Contribution Areas: Automate the whole or parts of a system level test process for a data center product family.
Development is done in a variety of scripting languages on the Solaris platform including Korn shell, Perl, and Tcl. Work with product engineering in developing a process to qualify new hardware or software components for factory production readiness.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of data center class products, the architecture of computer systems, the interactions between hardware and software subsystems, and of the Solaris operating environment.
Provide engineering support to the manufacturing floor when issues arise in the system test process.
Provide timely and effective communications to manufacturing technicians on issues, their root cause, and resolution.
Provide occasional phone support on weekends.
Develop web applications and tools that support the system test process.
Posess a strong understanding of software development processes and software life cycles.
Code developed by the engineer adheres to coding best practices and style guidelines, is well commented and documented, is adequately unit tested, and has an appropriate level of regression testing put in place.
Participates in test engineering design and code reviews and helps shape the best practices of the group.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Document the test process and associated tools.
Documentation is used both for ISO compliance and as a reference by manufacturing technicians.
Develop and provide training for technicians on the tools and processes created by test engineering.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Strong understanding of the Solaris or Unix operating environment is required.
Must be well versed in Unix scripting languages.
Korn Shell, Perl, and Tcl are all used extensively and experience in each is recommended.
Strong understanding of software development and software testing processes is required.
Basic understanding computer architectures is required.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE: Experience managing projects and coordinating efforts across functions.
Should have experience with web development environments including Perl CGI, Java Servlets, and/or JSP. Experience with other technologies such as PHP or Ruby is a plus.
Experience in database development and/or SQL is a plus.
UNIX System Administrator experience is a plus.
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
