Java/Web Software Developer
Specific Accountabilities: Develop new and enhance existing features of Knovel's website and Knovel's Customer Access Management interface.
The development should be guided by the following principles: The development should be carried out according to approved specs and plan containing priorities, completion deadlines and cost justification The development should be cost effective, i.
e., focused on those features that, with least investment, bring maximum results in terms of increased functionality and user-friendliness.
The goal of development should be a good balance among innovation, performance and usefulness.
The latest technology should be employed when appropriate.
The development should be closely coordinated with other product development efforts.
All code must be tested before delivery to another team member.
If a piece of code has not been run at least once in a test environment, then it is not finished and therefore cannot be delivered.
The enhancement of existing features should be focused on: Improving the performance, especially increasing the speed of search and display.
Fixing existing bugs Making relatively minor change to render GUI more transparent to the user.
Normally, the enhancement of existing features will be carried out as a part of the ongoing product development.
Assist in the defining of required new features and enhancements, the writing of specs and the prototyping.
Assist in the preparation of manuals and Help.
Provide all relevant technical documentation.
This activity should take 10% of the programmer's time.
Learn new technologies and tools as directed.
Find and recommend new technologies and tools that could be useful to our team.
This activity should take 15% of the programmer's time.
Know-How: Expert knowledge in Java, JSP and SQL. Familiarity with XML, TCP/IP and IIS. Begin researching SOAP.
Knowledge of Star Team also required.
Study and reference materials are available upon request.
Complete familiarity with the programming methodologies needed to write code for Knovel products.
These include: Object Oriented Programming (OOP) and Custom Tags.
Skills in these areas are critical to our success in developing web applications.
Familiarity with information sources (magazines, publications, web sites) that can contribute to development and maintenance of Knovel software
