Registered Dietitian II - (ML16901)
Job Description: The Registered Dietitian II provides nutrition care for inpatients and outpatients of all age groups (ranging from infants through geriatrics) with complicated nutritional problems, including those on standard parenteral nutrition support and those in ICU settings, by assessing nutritional needs; developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care; and educating patients and families.
The dietitian collaborates with physicians, case managers, and other healthcare team managers regarding nutritional management of patients.
Reports to the Clinical Nutrition Manager in Nutrition Services.
Job Descriptions: Requires a Registered Dietitian (RD), meeting the academic requirements specified by the American Dietetic Association, and completion of a pre-professional practice program (dietetic internship, coordinated or AP4 program) accredited or approved by the Commission on Accreditation Dietetics Education (CADE).
Requires maintenance of registration by continuing education participation.
Requires current State of Illinois license to practice (LD).
Requires 2-3 years experience in clinical dietetics.
MS degree in Nutrition or related field is preferred.
Certification, e.
g., CNSD, CDE, CS is preferred.
Requires knowledge and skills needed for RD I position plus the following: Requires current knowledge base in critical care nutrition, gastrointestinal disorders, parenteral and enteral nutrition support, and electrolyte management.
Requires ability to analyze complex cases/problems and make appropriate recommendations and/or decisions.
Requires ability to work with critically ill patients on a continual basis.
Requires ability to write professionally and to speak before large groups.
Is expected to give presentations at local professional meetings, submit articles for publication in professional journals and newsletters, and participate in research activities related to nutrition.
Requires ability and willingness to precept and mentor RD I, medical students, and dietetic interns.
Requires ability to develop and evaluate patient outcome indicators for quality improvement.
Requires knowledge and skills needed to assess and interpret data about the patient s status in order to identify the physical, psychosocial, and nutritional needs, and to provide the nutrition care appropriate to the neonate, child, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient on assigned units.
