RN-Neuro/Trauma 4S

When compared to other hospitals in the state, Spectrum Health has one of the largest volumes of stroke patient admissions.
The Neuroscience team is composed of expert, dedicated professionals including specially prepared nurses, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, a neuropathologist, pharmacists, physiatrists and rehabilitative specialists.
The Neuroscience unit is a dynamic, fast paced 47-bed unit specializing in the care of patients with neuro trauma, neurosurgical, and neurological diagnoses.
Spine surgeries, stroke, head traumas, brain tumors, cervical and lumbar fusions, brain hemorrhage, and seizures are the most frequently seen diagnosis.
This unit consists of dedicated, team oriented professionals who welcome new RNs. New RNs are provided with an extensive, individualized orientation to prepare them for the care of neuro patients.
Specially prepared RN preceptors are matched with new orientees to promote the best learning experience.
In addition to the general orientation classes, new RNs attend 16 hours of neuroscience classes that are also offered to critical care and emergency room nurses.
Our very successful New Orientee Support Team is provided for emotional and professional support of our new staff members.
A dedicated neuroscience nurse staff educator provides support during orientation and ongoing education for new procedures.
A Clinical Nurse Specialist is available to provide advanced knowledge and consultation on complex cases.
Job Requirements: Michigan RN license.
CPR certification or acquisition within 90 days of employment.
Other: Time management and organizational skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Working knowledge of computers and their application preferred.
Working knowledge of a variety of health care equipment.
Ability to make quality, independent decisions.
Ability to instruct and direct the work of others.
80% of time spent standing and/or walking.
Ability to lift up to a 60 pound weight load.
Very frequent lifting and bending, pushing and/or pulling loads.
Able to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions.
