Medical Sonographer
Posting Dates: 10/18/05 - 10/25/05 Purpose of Job: Under the supervision of the Radiology Supervisor, performs a variety of sonographic procedures and departmental support functions.
Utilizes departmental policies and procedures in meeting patient needs; adheres to proper quality utilization and risk management policies and practices.
Performs imaging procedures for patients of both genders and all ages.
This position also has compliance accountability and/or responsibility for Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, the Principles of Responsibility, accreditation standards (if applicable), and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as, proper use of Kaiser Permanente Personal Computer (PC) and applications.
Duties and Responsibilities Uses standard ultrasound equipment and a solid foundation in ultrasound theory.
Selects and operates equipment as required.
Selects proper technical factors on an individual basis and provides protection for patients in accordance to prescribed safety standards.
Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations as outlined in the policy and procedure manual, including but not limited to: Abdominal, Retroperitoneal, Neonatal heads, Small parts, and Vascular scans.
Provides high-quality images demonstrating fetal anatomy as outlined in the policy and procedures manual when performing obstetrical sonograms.
Performs fetal biometrics evaluations with accurate and reproducible measurements; recognizes anatomical landmarks used in biometry.
Performs gynecologic sonograms, including performing transvaginal sonograms when needed and have a working knowledge of physiologic and pathologic processes.
Maintains a clean, neat and properly stocked work area, closes up work area at end of shift as needed according to departmental policy.
Reports malfunction of equipment to supervising personnel immediately.
Organizes workflow utilizing supportive personnel to maximize efficiency allowing time for more selective and priority duties.
Performs other related duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications Must have a general understanding of the dynamics of sonography.
Experience in another diagnostic imaging modality is desirable.
Education and Training High School diploma or equivalent required.
Satisfactory completion and documentation of formal training program in Diagnostic sonography at an accredited school.
License, Certifications, Other Credentials Must be registered or obtain registry status within one year of hire.
Current CPR certified or must acquire within three months of hire.
