Laboratory Services Coordinator
Preferred Skills: Certified MLT or MT preferred.
Supervisory experience in laboratory patient services area to include: phlebotomy, other specimen collections, specimen processing and clerical functions.
Supervises workflow to include all staffs to ensure high quality services to member and staff.
Purpose: To coordinate Laboratory Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities to ensure consistency across the region.
Develop monitoring tools with parameters to evaluate quality measures in the region's laboratories.
Identify and implement processes for quality risk avoidance.
Gather data, evaluate, and prepare analysis and recommendations related to Laboratory Quality Systems and programs.
This position also has compliance accountability and/or responsibility for Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, the Principles of Responsibility, accreditation standards, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Accountabilities: List six to eight key accountabilities of the position, list in order of importance.
Through analysis of incident reports.
Physician and Provider concerns, corrected reports, QAP reports, proficiency testing, and quality control data, identify trends, and assess risk for proficiency testing failure.
Identify and implement avenues for quality processes improvement in collaboration with Laboratory Supervisors.
Manage preparation of standardized competency documentation for the region, establish processes for document monitoring to ensure consistency and compliance.
In collaboration with Laboratory Supervisors, develop and implement processes for consistent management of staff competency testing program.
Design processes and serve as regional coordinator with Laboratory Supervisors to ensure compliance with accrediting and licensing bodies.
Disseminate information to facilitate and ensure sharing of best practices within the region.
Analyze information related to quality measures from the region's laboratories, identify and coordinate implementation of practices for compliance with the Laboratory Quality Assurance plan.
Develop and recommend Laboratory Information Systems procedures to facilitate use of Quality Rules in the system.
Utilizing appropriate PC tools, provide statistical analysis for development and monitoring of reference/reportable range, In collaboration with Laboratory Supervisors, develop, implement, and monitor programs for Point of Care Testing (POCT) in the clinical Areas.
Provide consultative services to Laboratory Supervisors for POCT.
Provide regular status reports to Clinical Area Laboratory Directors for POCT Provide regular reports of status of Quality Systems to Laboratory Directors and Laboratory Managers.

Education BS or BA in Medical Technology or related field required.
ASCP certification or equivalent required.
Experience Minimum of six years experience as a Medical Technologist required.
Two years experience with personal computers, with use of relational database and spreadsheet software required, two years experience with graphic and presentation software preferred.
Knowledge Knowledge of QC/QA/QI principles and processes required.
Knowledge and understanding of multiple laboratory methodologies required.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to Laboratory operation preferred.
Affiliation with professional organizations preferred.
Demonstrated participation in Continuing Education opportunities required.
Skills Demonstrated strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication (written and verbal) skills required.
Strong statistical analysis background and ability to prepare information in useful formats required.
Ability to work independently, with flexible schedule required.
Proven leadership and influence skills.
Ability to deal with sensitive information in a discreet manner.
Competencies: List six to ten key competencies, in order of importance, required for success in this position.
Effective negotiation, influence, and communication skills with a variety of technical, clinical, and management groups.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with successful completion of multiple concurrent projects.
Ability to develop and recommend policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Laboratory Quality Assurance Plan.
Ability to develop processes to facilitate compliance with procedures.
Ability to interpret accrediting and licensure requirements and apply to daily processes.
