Deciphering and protecting classified information for the Navy and our country is the top job of Sailors in the Intelligence and Communications field.

From producing intelligence from raw data to detecting enemy radar signals, tracking surface and inbound threats and coding and decoding classified information, the Intelligence and Communications team keeps the fleet informed with reports on the latest news and developments.

What Will You Do? Individuals in the Intelligence and Communications field must be able to meet all security clearance requirements.
Armed with often secretive and up-to-the-second information, Sailors in this field are focused on collecting and communicating information and data.
They handle highly classified documents, defend ships against inbound threats and transform raw data into vital intelligence information.
You could operate surveillance and altitude radar equipment such as the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems on a ship.
The most state-of-the-art electronic equipment is available to Sailors in this field.
As part of this occupational specialty, you might: Track surface and inbound targets Operate underwater communications equipment Defend ships against inbound threats including anti-ship missiles Identify sounds produced by ships, torpedoes, submarines, sonar transmissions, marine life and natural phenomena Analyze intelligence information Function as a plotter by using radio-telephone and Command and Control sound-powered telephone talkers Maintain Combat Information Center (CIC) displays of strategic and tactical information Serve as Air Traffic Controllers for helicopters and fixed-wing supersonic jet aircraft Operate and maintain the Navy's global satellite telecommunications systems Work with highly classified and technical material Provide technical support to deployed units Operate state-of-the-art electronic radio receivers Maintain personnel security files Operate state-of-the-art computer equipment Educational Opportunities Most of the on-the-job training in the Intelligence and Communications field directly translates to credit at colleges and universities.
You may have the opportunity to continue your education through various college programs and tuition assistance.
Advanced training may be available in computers, electronics, and air traffic controller positions.
Other incentives in Intelligence and Communications for qualified individuals may include receiving pay and benefits while attending college full time and qualifying for the Navy-CASH program.
